Valve reveals Steam Machine gaming PC and controller for 2026

Valve has revealed a brand new line of gaming hardware to accompany the Steam Deck, including a Steam Machine PC.

The Steam Machine is a next-gen gaming PC that is compact, connects to televisions, and is “six times more powerful than the Steam Deck.

The Steam Machine, new Steam Controller, and Steam Frame wireless VR Headset are all set to release in early 2026.

However, Valve has crucially not yet confirmed the price point for any of these products.

Though there will be two different models of the Steam Machine, one with 512GB storage and another with 2TB storage, with the former likely a budget option.

But both will feature a high-speed microSD slot for additional storage, and the internal SSD will be relatively easy to replace too.

Valve is angling the Steam Machine as a mini gaming PC for users’ living rooms.

Supposedly, 20% of the Steam Deck’s millions of users use the handheld in its docked mode despite struggling with resolutions on the bigger screens.

The next-gen Steam Machine is supposed to be the answer to that, with the tiny cube measuring around 6 inches each side, easily fitting into home entertainment systems.

The Steam Machine’s power source is built in too, meaning no large and heavy power bricks for users to contend with.

It also features a customisable LED strip and a magnetic front plate which can be customised.

Valve hasn’t confirmed whether it will sell these plates, but did mention it will release 3D printing files to allow people to make their own.

It could prove to be popular in the UK, considering the UK was found to be one of the countries with the most valuable Steam collections.

Steam Machine 2026 specs

  • CPU: AMD Zen 4 (6-core)
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU: Semi-custom AMD RDNA 3 (28 CU)
  • VRAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 512 GB, 2 TB
  • OS: SteamOS

New Steam Controller

Like the Steam Machine, the new Steam Controller is another upgraded follow-up to a piece of hardware released by Valve in the 2010s.

The new Steam Controller is again aimed at making PC gaming in the living room easier.

This version features two thumbsticks, rather than one like the last iteration, which are fitted with anti-stick drift technology.

Below the two thumbsticks are two trackpads, similar to the Steam Deck’s design, which are supposed to let players use mouse controls.

The Steam Controller can be connected to devices via both Bluetooth and a dedicated 2.4 GHz connection.

The latter is achieved through a ‘puck’ which can be plugged into a PC, allows for low-latency wireless gameplay, and doubles as a charging port.

The connector for these controllers is built into the new Steam Machine, allowing up to four controllers to connect wirelessly to the new piece of hardware.

Valve will be keen to get this new generation of hardware out in 2026 and move on from the Steam data breach that supposedly affected 89 million accounts.
