Team Heretics LEC Head Coach Peter Dun has announced he is stepping back from top-tier League of Legends coaching.
The UK coach announced on social media platform X (aka Twitter) he is going on indefinite leave at the end of the year, as he is due to become a parent.
“My partner and I are expecting. Team Heretics, players/staff/org have known since the end of Winter Split,” Peter Dun said.
“After much thought and discussion with those close to me, I will be taking an indefinite break from coaching League of Legends at the end of this annual (2024 Worlds) cycle.
“There are many coaches out there who manage their responsibilities as a parent in combination with full time obligations to their org. [Mac is one example, who announced late last year he was becoming a parent, before joining Team Vitality].
“However, as someone who doesn’t play League of Legends and who has compensated for years by fully committing to the study of the game, the 110 hours a week I normally commit to the game in season is not sustainable with parenthood.
“Even dropping to 90 weekly this Spring Split felt very off, and I don’t feel comfortable continuing without knowing that I can (responsibly) push myself to the limits I have done in the past.”
Peter Dun, who has previously worked with Intz, Splyce, Mad Lions and Evil Geniuses, before joining Heretics in late 2022, said working in esports for the past eight and a half years has been particularly tough for his partner, who lives and works in Amsterdam.
“Being apart for eight+ months a year has never been easy, and I truly appreciate the sacrifices she has made over the past almost decade so that I could pursue this career,” Peter continued. “I hope to repay some of that in the coming months and years.
“As for what’s next. I’m not sure. I have a half finished PhD and some football coaching badges that are calling me to complete. But my main focus right now is on how to best help Team Heretics get to Worlds, and then to be the best supportive husband and father I can be.”

“I will continue to work with the team during Summer and beyond until the end of my current contract. Team Heretics have been very supportive, understanding and accommodating of my decision/circumstances, and I truly thank them for that.
“It’s been a fun run. I hope to be able to get one more international event in at Worlds this year. (A pre-emptive) Goodbye and thanks for all the fish.”
Peter Dun also thanked everyone for the memories, and said he will make more individual thank yous when he retires at the end of the year.
The news comes shortly after G2 won the Spring 2024 LEC European final, with Peter Dun recently telling Thorin in an interview that G2’s players were already on Chinese time during the final, in preparation for MSI, with no sleep beforehand.
