Evil Geniuses’ British head of League of Legends coaching staff Peter Dun has spoken about his team playing without fear and working hard to lift the Spring 2022 LCS trophy.
Evil Geniuses (EG) beat 100 Thieves 3-0 in the North American LCS League of Legends grand finals on the weekend at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
After initially falling 3-2 to Liquid in the opening playoffs match, EG enjoyed an incredible lower bracket run, beating Flyquest 3-1, Cloud9 3-0 and Team Liquid 3-0, before facing 100 Thieves in the final.
EG’s dismantling of 100 Thieves in the final was thorough. They won in three straight games in record time at just under 79 minutes of game time.
The finals result was a surprise given EG’s 9-9 record in the regular split, finishing fourth, behind Liquid, C9 and 100T.
Evil Geniuses have now qualified for the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) which kicks off in South Korea from May 10th 2022 and will feature teams such as LEC Spring 2022 winners G2, LCK’s T1, LPL’s Royal Never Give Up and others.
EG head coach Peter Dun said after the finals in this Twitter thread:
He went on to thank the players, staff/organisation and fans.
Peter added: “After a mixed 2021 would have been easy to just try a new path. But [EG senior management have] backed us every step.
“We never gave up, and never stopped working hard. And this is the reward.
“Thank you to all the EG fans. Your support is always what makes it all worthwhile. Hope we can continue to put on a good show for you all at MSI.”
Peter Dun joined Evil Geniuses in November 2020 as head coach after a few years with Splyce/Mad Lions in Europe, where he picked up a coach of the split award in the EU LCS, before it was rebranded to the LEC.
Earlier this year, Peter was promoted to head of coaching staff/head of LCS at Evil Geniuses, with Turtle taking on the EG League of Legends head coach position.
EG’s title-winning roster includes top-laner Impact (South Korea), jungler Inspired (Poland), mid-laner Jojopyun (Canada), bot-laner Danny (USA) and support player Vulcan (Canada).
Streamer IWillDominate also shared a tweet about Peter Dun talking about Jojopyun early on and how the coach believed in him from day one.
Evil Geniuses will represent the North American League of Legends region at MSI 2022 in May.
