The latest Insomnia Gaming Festival concluded last weekend, and the Insomnia 70 esports winners were announced across a host of different tournaments.

There were i70 BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) LAN Opens in League of Legends, CSGO, Overwatch and Rocket League, plus a bigger tournament in Valorant.

First up, in the new £10,000 Valorant iSeries Challenge, Skål Esports (pictured, top) took first place after beating The Goose House 2-0 in the final. Skål won £5,000 and the Goose House £2,500, while third place eMasters won £1,000 and fourth place Next in Line won £600.

eMasters also finished strongly in the £2,500 CSGO open, beating Ocelot 3-1 in the final to become CSGO Insomnia 70 esports winners.

Husky said after the win: “It was good, I think they put up a good fight. They won a few ecos but we kept our heads.”

In League of Legends, it was those cabbages from the University of Warwick finishing on top again, as Cabbage Corp beat Paragon 2-1 in the £2,500 League of Legends Open Grand Final.

This was another win for the cabbages after Grey Cabbage picked up a back to back win at i69 last year, making this i70 a three-peat for them as LoL Insomnia 70 esports winners.

Jungler Pawp called on more UK orgs to challenge them after the win: “It feels very good. I think the tournaments are getting competitive in terms of the teams that show up, I hope only more teams show up, more UK orgs come out here and try to beat us.

“We’ve won three times and there’s no resistance. We’re gonna come again next time and hope to see some UK orgs here.”

Team $350 (a reference to coach Neace) and Ruddy Esports finished third and fourth respectively.

Moving on to the £3,000 Overwatch 2 Open, and it was Cement Eaters that took first place after beating MG 3-1 in the grand final.

One of the Cement Eaters players told host GreyHart after the win: “I’m feeling good but to be honest I’m pretty sick, I went out last night and thought I was going to throw up every map, I can’t lie.”

Only at Insomnia.

In Rocket League, Team Hosky were dominant, with three wins, making them one of the stand-out Insomnia 70 esports winners.

In the £1,000 Rocket League Open, Team Hosky beat Symbiotes in the grand final.

And not only that, but Hosky also won the separate RSC x ERS Rocket League tournaments at i70 too. The team at RSC EU kindly provided Esports News UK with the following info:

The wins come after Team Hosky won the RSC11 Premier Tier.

The i70 Open team, consisting of two UK players PLUVO and Smashy, as well as French player Parka, have made a large impact in the community and bubble scene lately.

Parka has already played at the highest level, most notably for SK Gaming and HEET within RLCS. With this new roster they went on to compete at the i70 Open Tournament and the first ERSC LAN.

In the RSC tournament, Hosky’s roster was Smashy, PLUVO and Fleikoo.

In the i70 Open, Symbiotes had close games against the team and were not going down without a fight. However the ice in Hosky proved far too much for the challengers and they took the first prize of £750.

In the first £300 ERSC LAN tournament, which was held in the NEC Birmingham as well, Hosky also dominated the competition in a very convincing fashion.

NSE BUEC university finals at i70

Insomnia 70 also played host to the latest British University Esports Championship Spring 2023 finals from NSE (National Student Esports).

This saw Warwick win in Dota, Exeter in Siege, Portsmouth in Overwatch 2, Southampton in CSGO, East Anglia in Rocket League, Exeter in League of Legends and Nottingham Trent in Valorant.

Exeter also won the Splatoon 3 University Championship at i70 against Bristol.

Other esports activities at i70

There were also British Army Esports and British Esports Federation activities at i70 too.

That concludes our Insomnia 70 esports winners roundup.

i71 dates announced

This makes a change from the usual August Bank Holiday weekend – we’ve reached out to organisers to ask why the dates are different this time around and will update this article if we hear back.

There’s more info and tickets will be available on the Insomnia Gaming Festival website from May 18th 2023.
