Update (May 20th 2022): Riot has officially revealed Bel’Veth with a cinematic and biography.
Original article: Riot Games had stated that after Zeri and Renata, the next champion in 2022 would be a ‘void-themed jungler’, but new pieces of content from creators suggest a name and other info for the champion.
Leaker Big Bad Bear posted a video claiming the void jungler will be known as ‘Bel’Veth’, based on a mysterious message from the League of Legends 2022 Season announcement from the start of the year.
Ryan ‘Reav3′ Mireles, Riot Games’ champion team lead, was talking about Zeri, hinting about Renata before appearing to be ‘taken over’ by a void-like entity.
“I see it,” he said, with purple eyes. “I see everything. The lavender sea. Purple cities cover the land. She rules over it all.
“My empress. This is what Runeterra should be – its true form. The city of Belveth shall fall first. Beautiful Remora swimming endlessly through cities of lavender, overwhelming everything in her path, consuming us. We are all saved.”
For us, it sounds like the city is called Belveth – not the champion.
A week ago, YouTuber Remus said the name of the champion was Rem’ora, so take these ‘leaks’ guesses with a pinch of salt until Riot’s official announcement. That would appear to be the more logical possibility, given Reav3 talks about a ‘beatiful Remora swimming endlessly through cities’.
This implies the new champion may be some type of fish or serpent-like creature, perhaps like existing void champion Vel’Koz, and could have mind-control abilities. A remora is a fish that has a suction disk on its head which it uses to cling onto other fish – there’s also the similarly-named Remoraid from the Pokémon series of games.
This post on the Lore of League subreddit by Bearisknight also goes into detail around possibilities for the new champion after analysing different League of Legends stories.
“There are flashes within Meir’s mind,” they quote from the Feast of the Prophet story. “An enormous shape, looming behind the prophet and filling the entire night sky. Buildings… or something like buildings, but inverted and crooked beneath a vast, unnatural ocean. Thousands of voracious creatures swimming in schools so large they block even the dappled light from the not-sun, creating their own currents in the not-water.”
Whatever this new Void Empress is, the jungler will join other existing void champions including Kai’Sa, Cho’Gath, Kassadin, Kha’Zix, Kog’Maw, Rek’Sai and Malzahar.
Some are reporting the new champion will arrive on April 27th 2022 in patch 12.8 after apparently hitting the PBE (public beta environment) on April 12th, but that seems too soon given Riot has not officially revealed anything yet. Expect an update from Riot soon.
