Yes it’s a bit of a slow news morning, can you tell?
Anyway, there’s an unofficial League of Legends version of Wordle, the popular quickfire word-based puzzle game recently acquired by the New York Times.
The official Wordle is updated with a new puzzle each day, and challenges players to guess a five-letter word in six tries or less. Guess a letter correctly and it’ll turn yellow, guess the correct letter in the correct place within that word, and it’ll turn green. The aim is to guess the correct word in as few tries as possible.
Part of Wordle’s success has come down to how shareable it is (you just hit the tweet button after completing a puzzle), and for a while it clogged up many a Twitter feed with gobble-de-gook like this:
We played it for a while but had to give it up when we realised it used some weird US spellings for words over UK ones.
Anyway, we digress. Someone has made a League of Legends variant of Wordle, appropriately named Yordle, after the character race in the game.
Instead of guessing a random five-letter word, players have to guess a champion name from the LoL universe, like Akali. And in the next few days, other LoL-themed words will be added, such as items and skill names.
The Yordle game was created by two friends, as per this post on the LoL subreddit by Verevyta. And they are working right now on a bonus round with spell names.
It’s worth noting this isn’t an official League of Legends game and seems to have nothing to do with Riot Games.
As haven4ever pointed out: “You have to be really careful with [using] that name. Riot Zed might come and ult you, and he wishes he could say that it would be a pleasure.”
Turns out there’s also another similar game – Yordle.Quest.
Anyway, yep. Slow news day. LoL version of Wordle. Enjoy. Be back with some UK esports news soon.
Update: There’s now another League of Legends-themed Wordle-type game – loldle.net – a web game where you have to guess one champion per day and everyone has the same. And Counter-Strikl for FPS fans.
