Fnatic and FUT become first teams to lock VCT EMEA Stage 1 2026 playoff spots

Fnatic and FUT Esports have become the first teams to lock playoff spots at VCT EMEA Stage 1 2026, with both sides staying undefeated through the group phase.

That matters immediately because the race for top-six qualification is still compressed behind them, but two of the region’s most convincing lineups have already removed any doubt about their place in the bracket.

According to Gamereactor’s report, Fnatic and FUT are the first two of the 12-team field to mathematically secure progression. As covered in our earlier look at the VCT EMEA Stage 1 format and schedule, this stage runs through May 17 in Germany and feeds directly into the wider 2026 circuit picture.

Fnatic and FUT separated themselves early in both groups

Fnatic came through Group Omega with the cleaner statistical case, posting a 3-0 record, six maps won and a +27 round differential after Riot’s standings recalculation confirmed their place. Liquipedia’s event page lists Fnatic at 94 rounds won to 67 lost so far, a margin that backs up the eye test: this roster has looked in control more often than not.

FUT Esports matched the undefeated record on the Alpha side and were first to remove the playoff question entirely there. Their 99-77 round count is not quite as dominant as Fnatic’s on paper, but it still reflects a side that has handled the first phase with authority while the teams below them keep trading blows.

The timing is notable too. Fnatic and FUT already had a recent regional rivalry layer after meeting in the Kickoff playoffs earlier this year, and Stage 1 has only reinforced the sense that both belong near the top of the EMEA conversation again. For Fnatic in particular, that is another strong competitive note in a month where the organisation has also stayed busy away from the server, from its Sony OLED monitor partnership to broader organisational headlines.

The chase behind them is still where the pressure sits

The bigger tension now shifts to the teams trying to follow them into playoffs. In Alpha, Gentle Mates and Team Liquid are both sitting at 2-1 behind FUT, while in Omega, Eternal Fire and GIANTX are in the same position behind Fnatic, which keeps the mid-table fight very much alive even with first place already under pressure from an unbeaten leader.

At the other end, the situation is becoming severe for the teams still winless. Karmine Corp in Alpha and PCIFIC Esports in Omega both dropped to 0-3, leaving little room for recovery and turning the final group matches into survival games rather than positioning battles.

That split is what makes early qualification so valuable. Fnatic and FUT now get the cushion of planning around playoff seeding and matchup quality, while the rest of the field still has to spend energy just getting over the line. In a format like this, banking that certainty before the final stretch is a serious advantage, not just a nice headline.

Stage 1 now turns toward seeding, elimination and circuit stakes

There is still a lot left to decide before the bracket is fully shaped. Stage 1 is not only about a regional title but also about the VCT points and international positioning that come with a deep run, with the top performers moving a step closer to the season’s global events.

That means Fnatic and FUT have secured the first objective, but not the important one that lasts. The next step is converting early group control into a playoff run that actually defines the season, especially in a region where one bad best-of-three can flatten weeks of good work.

For Fnatic, the early lock continues a strong 2026 arc and keeps attention on a roster that already looks like one of EMEA’s cleanest bets. The organisation has also remained visible off-server, including its recent move to take action over online abuse with law enforcement involvement, but right now the more immediate story is simple: the team is winning, and winning cleanly.

For everyone else, the maths is getting tighter by the day. According to VLR’s event page, the remaining schedule will decide which teams join them in playoffs and which ones leave Stage 1 empty-handed. By May 17, EMEA will know whether these early unbeaten runs were just strong starts or the shape of the title race itself.
