Baus ban lifted after 1/17 Sion performance; Community reacts

Los Ratones Top Laner, Simon ‘Baus’ Hofverberg was temporarily banned from League of Legends following a 1/17/14 KDA Support performance.

The Swedish player initially received a one-week ban after autodetection, but Baus was unbanned after only an hour, following a ticket appeal to Riot.

That unban has proved to be somewhat contentious amongst the League of Legends community, with some believing the ban should have been upheld.

Why was Baus banned?

Baus was autofilled as Support in the match, but seemingly was reluctant to adapt to his off-role position, playing his signature Top pick of Sion.

While the plan may have been to force a Lethality/Assassin Sion build, the Los Ratones Top Laner ended up not being able to do the required damage to make that build work.

Instead, Baus was left outgunned by his opponents, who quickly outscaled his build and his team on the way to defeat.

Upon receiving the ban, the Swede was typically aloof, saying, “I even had more CS than the Elise. I was literally outfarming her.”

He later added, “It’s not my fault I was autofilled,” stating, “I wouldn’t be playing like this if I was on my main role; I’m not comfortable playing off-role… I wouldn’t go 1/17 if I was Top Lane.”

The EMEA Masters Winter and Spring champion ended the stream following the ban, but was back online the following morning.

Following the unban, Baus stated, “Chat, we are back on the main account… It was the fastest response I’ve ever gotten [from Riot].”

Reddit reacts to Baus ban

The unban proved somewhat contentious amongst Reddit’s community, following the news of the ban spreading to a post on the content aggregator.

Redditors had mixed feelings about the revocation of the ban, with many holding the view that the ban was legitimate as Baus was not making a concerted effort to win the contest.

One Redditor said, “If any other non-famous player does this, there is no chance of getting a revoke. I don’t care if this is his playstyle… he completely f**ked up the game, and there are clear double standards.”

Another was critical of the Sion build, posting, “It’s not even a strat, it’s just 17 deaths for chat engagement. No reason for him to be unbanned 1 hour later.”

One user wanted an even harsher punishment, stating, “Each death should’ve been a day. Idc if he’s a streamer or something. That is literal feeding and ruin the game for other ppl, that’s what all of u in this sub complain about. The Ban was deserved.”

However, not everyone thought the unban was unfair, with one poster pointing out that the majority of his team died 10+ times.

Another poster replied, “This was literally just a high-death scrappy game where Sion can’t just run away, he initiates with ult and probably dies even if they win the teamfight…. there’s literally a ton of reasons as to why his statline looks like this and why the unban makes sense.”

Regardless, it is not Reddit but Riot who are the ultimate arbiter of League of Legends gameplay, and they found that Baus’s gameplay did not justify the week-long ban.

Baus will soon debut in the LEC, where Los Ratones will kick off the LEC 2026 Versus tournament against Fnatic in their Tier 1 event debut.
