M80 claim revenge over NRG in flawless fl0m Mythical LAN run

M80 defeated NRG 2-0 in the Grand Final of the inaugural fl0m Mythical LAN to claim revenge in their local rivalry.

The victory completed a flawless run by M80, who did not drop a map in the Tier 2 North American event.

M80 claim revenge for consequential Miami defeat

NRG had defeated M80 at Fragadelphia Miami to secure an invitation for IEM Krakow, meaning M80 missed out on the competition.

However, M80 were easily superior in the Las Vegas LAN, which saw M80 take a close Mirage before dismantling NRG on Dust 2, 13-1.

The Mason ‘Lake’ Sanderson was awarded the event’s MVP by streamer and tournament organiser, Erik ‘fl0m’ Flom. The aggro-rifler averaged a 1.54 HLTV rating in M80’s dominant run.

While Lake’s heroics stood out, the org may be most pleased with its new signing of former Wildcard player, Josh ‘JBa’ Barutt.

The young gun averaged 1.25 across the event, making him the fourth-best-rated player in Vegas.

Ultimately, M80 will still be hurting from their defeat at Fragadelphia Miami, due to the consequences of the result, but after crushing NRG at FML, they will at least take heart that they are NA’s dominant force.

Mission successful for experimental LAN

fl0m Mythical LAN was somewhat of an experiment, driven by the viewership and community of popular Counter-Strike streamer, fl0m.

The LAN, which took place in Las Vegas’ HyperX Arena, hosted a capacity crowd of 500 over the three days, in the $30,000 prize pool event.

The event’s primary focus was to support the fragile North American Counter-Strike scene.

The scene has struggled to produce talent in recent years, losing notable orgs such as Cloud 9 and Evil Geniuses.

Upon the introduction of VRS, NA faced a threat from South America by sharing a region in the Valve Regional Standings.

As NA and SA orgs must compete for the same Major slots, NA has to compete with South America’s strong playerbase and fanbase to rival the Brazilian scene, amongst others.

In that regard, the event was successful as every team involved in the event benefited from the LAN in terms of VRS points.

Carson ‘nosraC’ O’Reilly’s Voca team gained the most points, with 105 points from the event, with BOSS gaining the most places in the ranking, jumping 27 places to 104th in the world.

NRG gained one place to move to 22nd in the live ranking, with M80 gaining five positions, with fewer points than NRG, to move to 24th in the world.

The LAN, therefore, achieved its mission statement of boosting NA CS, but we will have to wait for further announcements to be certain of whether it will be a sustainable venture.
