Virtus.pro backs WWF in fundraiser to save polar bears

Virtus.pro and its Overwatch 2 esports team have set up a fundraiser to help protect polar bears and their habitats.

The campaign began back in August and is gathering pace thanks to a new promotional video.

The fundraiser will support the UK branch of the non-profit organisation World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)’s polar bear conservation efforts.

The campaign, available on the Tiltify website, is aiming to raise £5,000 through fan donations as its first milestone.

At the time of writing, the campaign has so far raised £630 so far.

To boost the campaign, the Overwatch 2 team unveiled a small polar bear plushy wearing an orange bandana.

Virtus.pro is featuring the plushie in content and says they may take the bear to events to spread awareness of the fundraiser.

On the campaign page, Virtus.pro wrote:

“The polar bear has been the symbol of Virtus.pro for over 22 years, and it represents strength and resilience for our club and community.

“Today, polar bears face dangerous conditions in the wild, and we feel it’s our responsibility to help protect them.

“Our campaign is about connecting our global esports audience with this cause and supporting WWF’s vital conservation work.”

According to the WWF’s website, global polar bear numbers are projected to decline by 30% by 2050.

WWF claims to support polar bear conservation efforts in numerous ways.

The conservation organisation claims to be tackling global warming and helping protect habitats that polar bears are consequently losing.

WWF states that climate change is forcing polar bears to spend more time onshore and come in contact with Arctic communities more often.

WWF claims it is addressing this challenge by supporting community initiatives to ensure they can live safely alongside the Arctic’s top predator.

Additionally, WWF also monitor polar bear population numbers and is making polar bear research more cost-effective as well as less invasive.

Virtus.pro isn’t the only esports organisation to partner with WWF.

Back in 2021, Ninjas in Pyjamas collaborated with WWF and held a livestream event for the Earth Hour campaign.

The fundraising campaign asked people around the world to switch off their electronics in support of nature and the planet.

Virtus.pro’s Overwatch 2 20205 esports season

The Virtus.pro Overwatch 2 team recently saw its season come to an end.

Virtus.pro were one of the high-profile EMEA teams to miss out on this year’s Overwatch Champion Series (OWCS) World Finals.

The team finished sixth in EMEA during Stage 3 after losing 3-2 to Gen.G, who later also missed out on OWCS qualification.

Meanwhile, Virtus.pro’s Marvel Rivals team is performing very well at the Marvel Rivals Ignite Grand Finals at DreamHack Atlanta.

The team is now dominating internationally after Virtus.pro shockingly missed Marvel Rivals’ first Ignite esports LAN.
