dupreeh announces retirement in emotional farewell

dupreeh announces retirement

Peter ‘dupreeh’ Rasmussen took to the stage of the BLAST.tv Austin Major prior to the Grand Final to announce his retirement from playing professional Counter-Strike. In a tearful message, dupreeh celebrated the growth of the esport before bowing out of competition.

dupreeh’s full speech was as follows:

“Obviously, all good things come to an end, and it’s time to say goodbye. When I first got to play Counter-Strike I never imagined that we could gather so many people, and so many people would follow this esport. At that time, my only goal was to make a name for myself.
I wanted to go there and win one major, and that would be an achievement in itself. Today, I stand with five titles, and I think that the only rightful way to say that this is the end of my professional career as a player is to say it at the biggest stage and in front of all of you before someone is going to come and take the next trophy.”

The legendary entry-fragger leaves the sport as the player with the most major titles, and the second most notable trophies won, with 32, with apEX breaking that record in Austin.

An unforgettable career

The Dane’s career will always be synonymous with Astralis’s era of unprecedented dominance, which saw the roster take four major titles in three years. As an entry-fragger, dupreeh played a vital role in balancing Astralis’ considered, tactical approach with space creation and aggression.

dupreeh’s 1.25 HLTV-rated EVP performance at IEM Katowice 2019 will especially live long in the memory. The Dane dedicated the victory to his late father, who had lost a heroic ten-year battle with cancer.

Following a fractious period internally at Astralis, dupreeh, Magisk, and Zonic joined Vitality in January of 2022 in one of Counter-Strike’s biggest roster moves of all time.

Although that Vitality roster did not dominate in expected fashion, they did capture the BLAST Paris Major, meaning dupreeh surpassed his former Astralis teammates to become the sole player with the most major trophies in Counter-Strike.

With that record firmly intact, dupreeh steps away from Counter-Strike as an undoubted legend of the game, and a beloved fan favourite despite Astralis’ dominance being torturous to fans of many teams throughout the years.

dupreeh has been part of the BLAST coverage team throughout 2025 and will be continuing as broadcast talent from this point onwards.
