Fnatic founder Sam Mathews hints at LEC roster changes

Fnatic's League of Legends 2025 roster

Fnatic founder and CEO Sam Mathews has seemingly confirmed that the LEC team will indeed make some roster changes.

While Movistar KOI and G2 Esports prepare for MSI, Fnatic has a long wait until August 2nd for the LEC Summer Split.

And Mathews has heavily hinted roster changes will come to the League of Legends team before then, tweeting that Fnatic will post about the LEC roster ‘when there’s something to say about the changes.’

Some Fnatic fans have immediately taken this to mean that changes will be made to Fnatic’s LoL roster.

Fnatic’s Head Coach Fabian ‘GrabbZ’ Lohmann had already previously mentioned that the current roster was being reviewed.

Grabbz revealed Fnatic are open to LEC roster changes for the Summer Split, and Mathews’ tweet has backed these claims.

According to Grabbz, the bot lane duo of Elias ‘Upset’ Lipp and Mihael ‘Mikyx’ Mehle are safe and will remain for the rest of the year.

That just leaves toplaner Óscar ‘Oscarinin’ Muñoz Jiménez, jungler Iván ‘Razork’ Martín Díaz, and midlaner Marek ‘Humanoid’ Brázda on the hypothetical chopping block.

However, just because coaches want to make changes doesn’t mean they will be able to.

The League of Legends Global Contract Database shows that Humanoid’s contract expires in November this year, while Oscarinin and Razork are signed up until November 2026.

It’s a difficult time of year to make roster changes as the Summer Split is the most important time of the year with Worlds on the line.

Teams typically want to keep hold of their strongest talent in order to end the season on a high.

And that’s especially important as the LEC isn’t using Championship Points this year.

The Winter and Spring performances no longer matter. The top three LEC teams in Summer will qualify for Worlds.

Competition in EMEA has been fierce this year, with Fnatic finding themselves in the top four alongside G2, MKOI, and Karmine Corp.

At least one of these teams will not make it to the international event being held in China this year.

Fnatic has qualified for the last seven Worlds.

They have only failed to qualify for the LoL World Championships on two occasions, back in Season 2 (2012) and in 2016.
