Popular third person shooter game, Fortnite, has struggled to get active players in the last month, recording the lowest average numbers in the past two years.
Despite the limited time Star Wars event this season, Epic Games reported that average player count per day has dropped below one million for the first time since 2023.
Fortnite popularity takes dip
According to the official Fortnite data site Fortnite.gg, the average amount of players per day dropped significantly in the last month to 994,711.
The last time that Fortnite recorded a lower monthly average of active players was May 2023 and the count hasn’t got anywhere near that month’s disappointing 927,403 players until now, with over 1,000,000 users averaged per month in the last two years.
Fortnite also returned to the US App Store earlier this month for the first time in five years, so the amount of monthly users isn’t a great look.
The disappointing numbers on Fortnite are even more concerning for Epic Games considering that the limited time Star Wars event that is currently going on.
The Star Wars update went live midway through May with Fortnite being taken over by Star Wars themed items, but the collaboration clearly weren’t as popular as Epic Games thought it would be.
Can the Death Star Event revive Fortnite?
The Star Wars collab is set to come to an end at the end of the week, which could spark a revival in the game’s slightly disappointing numbers over the last month.
In the end of season event, the Death Star will target the current map and destroy it to mark the end of Chapter 6, with a map filled with new locations set to be revealed during the one off event.
The Fortnite Death Star Sabotage event takes place on Saturday, June 7th at 7pm BST and all players need to do to partake in the event is be in a game when the clock hits 7pm.

Epic Games will be hoping that the recent dip in popularity doesn’t have any effect on the Fortnite esports scene, with the Esports World Cup 2025 just around the corner.
Regardless of the dip in users on the game, Fortnite esports competitions have still been raking in huge audiences with peak viewership hitting 600,000 viewers for the popular Fortnite Pro-Am in May this year which was won by Peterbot and AussieAntics.
