The Esports World Cup has revealed the format for the Call of Duty: Warzone tournament this year, with some interesting changes made.
The Esports World Cup is going to be bigger than ever before this year, with the Saudi-based event offering a record-breaking prize pool of over £50million.
Warzone Esports World Cup format
Event organisers have confirmed most of the details for the upcoming tournament with all roads leading to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in July.
Warzone tournaments have mostly been on the Verdansk map since it returned to the game at the beginning of April however, the Esports World Cup is taking a new approach.
For the Esports World Cup, Warzone’s Resurgence mode will return to screens. The Resurgence mode has been used in past World Cups including at last year’s 2024 edition as well as other major tournaments.
The Resurgence mode certainly fits into the Esports World Cup format better, with a much smaller map making for a more hectic and action-packed game rather than the larger Verdansk map which would have dry spots where nobody is near an enemy.
Resurgence mode gives players an opportunity to redeploy into the game if teammates are still alive after a timer. The timer goes down as the remaining active teammates complete tasks and move across the map.
At the Esports World Cup, teams will earn points based on eliminations and placements, with each place earning a different multiplier.
Warzone Resurgence placing multipliers:
- 1st: 2x
- 2nd: 1.7x
- 3rd-5th: 1.4x
- 6th-10th: 1.2x
- 11th-14th: 1x
Qualifiers will begin for the Esports World Cup on May 31st, with 14 trios taking part in each round. The top 50% will advance into the next round with 28 teams making the closed qualifiers at a later date.
