Scottish Esports League returns with £5k SEL 6 tournament in partnership with Dundee and Angus College

eRena Sports' Scottish Esports League 6

The Scottish Esports League has returned after an absence of around two and a half years.

Scottish Esports League (SEL) 6 is finally going ahead later this year as part of a new partnership between new owners, eRena Sports, and Dundee and Angus College, which offers Scotland’s first-ever esports degree.

SEL 5 took place all the way back in November 2022, before its follow-up event was delayed due to Esports Scotland still owing money to teams, talent, staff and contractors a year later.

Esports Scotland faced significant backlash and in February 2024, Epic.LAN founder and MD Jon Winkle published a list of people who had claimed they were owed money by Esports Scotland from previous years.

The list amounted to almost £27k owed, of which he was still due more than £3k himself for his work on the 2022 event.

Epic.LAN was eventually paid later in 2024 after taking legal action, and more people received payment around the time that Esports Scotland was purchased by new owners. However, at the time of the most recent reports, some were still awaiting payment.

Previous SEL hosts Esports Scotland was bought out back in August last year and merged with current organisers eRena Sports after being acquired by Dundee-based entrepreneur David Hamilton. Esports Scotland founder, James Hood, stepped down as CEO but remains at the company as head of business development.

At the time of the merger, eRena Sports confirmed SEL 6 would go ahead and now, eight months later, we have details confirmed for the upcoming event.

Scottish Esports League 6 prize pool, format, and schedule

The SEL 6 event will see tournaments in Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Rocket League, and Valorant and will feature an overall prize pool of £5,000, though the distributions are yet to be confirmed.

Those wishing to compete have between now and June 15th to register for the event.

Then the tournament will begin with online playoffs taking place between June 27th and August 17th in a best-of-one, single elimination format for each esports title.

The top teams from those online matches will then qualify to compete at the offline finals, which will be held live from Dundee and Angus College’s Esports Studios between September 5th to September 7th.

Free tickets are available for those who wish to spectate the event in person, and matches will also be streamed on the TeamDAGN Twitch channel belonging to Dundee and Angus’ Team DA Dragons.
