The British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) has launched a first of its kind esports league exclusively for members of the UK Armed Forces.
The league will launch in June, with players looking to take part in the event going through tournament qualifiers until the end of July before an in-person Grand Final to wrap things up in September.
BFBS launches UK Armed Forces esports league
The esports league will be based around the hugely popular Rocket League game with gamers from all sorts of different backgrounds invited to sign up for the event.
There has been UK Armed Forces Rocket League competitions in the past, but never a league on this scale.
BFBS’ esports league will be open to UK Armed Forces personnel and their family members, cadets, veterans, members of the bereaved community and MOD civil servants as well as other members of the military.
“It was clear that Esports were becoming wildly popular with the military community and globally,” said Ben Chapman, BFBS chief executive. “Gaming and Esports bring people together and connect them with shared passions, and these elements underpin so much of our work at BFBS.

“Esports also encourage healthy competition and are so popular to watch – we can’t wait to build our leaderboard and a whole new community of gamers.”
The tournament aims to further promote esports to an even larger audience as well as bringing the Armed Forces community together for a fun and engaging skill.
BFBS will bring people together in its new tournament but there is also certainly a competitive side to the event, with a prize pool of £15,000 on offer to the champions.
As well as the £15k prize pool there will also be rewards for the top 100 ranked gamers at the end of the event which gives members of the Armed Forces even more of a reason to sign up, even if they have no experience in Rocket League at all.
