Caedrel says Los Ratones might not exist by the end of the year

British Twitch streaming superstar and new Red Bull athlete Marc ‘Caedrel’ Lamont believes there’s a chance his League of Legends team, Los Ratones, may not exist come the end of the year.

Caedrel has previously stated that the team won’t be paying €20m for an LEC spot and had previously talked about moving regions.

While reacting to the news of serious workplace allegations against the LEC’s Movistar Koi, Caedrel said “losing Ibai would be a horror” for LoL’s esports scene.

And then, while on the topic of LoL esports’ current struggles, Caedrel revealed Los Ratones may only be a one-year project:

“Chat, I don’t know what’s going to happen to Los Ratones at the end of the year.

“I don’t know if Los Ratones is going to exist by the end of the year, I don’t know if we’re going to be in a Tier 1 region, I don’t know if we’re going to be in f**king Korea. I don’t know what the f*ck is going to happen to Los Ratones. The landscape ain’t easy man.”

As chat began to panic and Los Ratones support Martin ‘Rekkles’ Larsson joked he was going to get fired, Caedrel reassured his viewers: ” It’s nothing to worry about yet. I’m trying to find ways to make the team work.”

And then he confirmed that Los Ratones are in talks to change league or even region: “If we can’t find ways to make the team work it’s going to suck. Maybe the team shuts down, maybe the team doesn’t shut down, maybe the team can make it into a Tier 1 region, there’s talks about stuff right now.”

“Listen… I don’t think we want to sit here and grind ERLs for years,” he then added.

Having become the first UK-registered team to win the LoL EMEA Masters and shattering viewership records for the event, Los Ratones have already reached their ceiling.

Because of that, Caedrel then went on to lament the lack of tournaments that Los Ratones can compete in:

“What I’m trying to say here is, if there were loads of third-party tournaments or there was a way to qualify into a major region, the LEC for example, it would be really easy for Los Ratones to have a goal. Then we’re actually playing for something.

“Or if there’s a way to qualify into leagues that would make it so much easier. I’m not trying to complain, I’m just saying the way the team is structured around content and competing, without those options, it makes it very difficult to do anything.”

Currently, the only third-party event Los Ratones could compete in is if Red Bull hosts another League of Their Own event, though the last featured showmatches rather than a competitive format.

There is also the Esports World Cup which will have a $2m (£1.5m) prize pool for LoL this summer. But teams have to qualify for this year’s edition through the Tier 1 tournaments so that’s also not an option for the team.
