Gears of War: Reloaded will be released on Playstation and PC as well as Xbox

Gears of War: reloaded

Microsoft has announced a huge development for the Gears of War series, with the currently Xbox exclusive game set to be released on multiple platforms.

Gears of War is being remastered for an August release date when the game will be made available on PC and Playstation for the first time as well as Xbox.

The news of Gears of War making its debut on Playstation and PC comes just days after Microsoft announced a price surge in Xbox products.

Gears of War: Reloaded

The official title of the game is Gears of War: Reloaded and the new version will be able to support 4K resolution as well as 120FPS performance.

It is the cross-play feature that will have fans excited though as the original game was released in 2006 and in 19 years across various different versions it has never been available outside of Xbox.

“As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means. It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than eve,” said Mike Crump, the Coalition studio head.

“Gears of War: Reloaded is a celebration of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises. Featuring 4K resolution, 120 FPS support, and the ultimate multiplayer experience with cross-progression and cross-play, across all platforms, this is the definitive way to experience the game that started it all.” he continued.

With the game now available cross-console, there is a very real chance that Gears of War could make a return to the esports scene after viewership and interest in the game dropped off in 2022.

What will feature in Gears of War: Reloaded?

The game itself will have all of the same content as the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which is also a remastered version of the original game from 2015.

Microsoft are rewarding current Gears of War users this summer as anyone who had already purchased the Ultimate Edition before this weeks announcement will receive the Reloaded edition for free in August.

In the reloaded edition, players will be able to play two-player co-op or multiplayer which allows up to 8 players to play together at once.

Crump confirmed that new users of the game will not need a Microsoft account which makes the Reloaded version accessible to an even wider audience.

There are benefits to having Microsoft though, as users logged into their accounts will be able progress on campaign and multiplayer across multiple devices.
