The Argyle Community Trust and City College Plymouth have launched a cutting-edge esports academy, designed for students with a strong interest in gaming and technology.
Plymouth Argyle launches Esports Academy
Situated at The Hub in Foulston Park, the advanced Babcock Esports Arena will offer state-of-the-art facilities, educational programs and career pathways for new students.
Gamers will be able to access a suite of 20 high-performing gaming stations which all feature the latest tech in the industry. The unique setup offers young people a chance to enjoy recreational gaming, earn qualifications and develop skills in esports competition environments.
An open day for the Esports Academy will be held at The Hub, Foulston Park, on Thursday, May 1, from 5pm to 7pm. The event welcomes anyone curious about the new academy as well as people looking to explore a career in the esports industry.

Head of Education at Argyle Community Trust, Gareth Harries, said: “The launch of the Argyle Community Trust and City College Plymouth Esports Academy marks the beginning of an exciting new era for students passionate about gaming, technology, and digital innovation.

Babcock Arena built to educate
The new esports facility will serve as both an educational hub as well as a function area for local gamers and competitive teams. Babcock Esports Arena will support British Esports-endorsed BTEC qualifications and offer a curriculum that teaches leadership, business, digital media and much, much more.
The curriculum Lead for Public Services, Sport, Health and Fitness at City College Plymouth, Liam Stevens, added: “Esports in the south-west is entering an exciting new era. The collaboration between City College Plymouth and the Argyle Community Trust will equip students with essential skills for success in both esports and the wider digital industry.
“Beyond personal development, esports develop key competencies that open doors to careers in playing, coaching, broadcasting, event management, and content creation.
“This ground-breaking initiative has the potential to transform the esports landscape in Plymouth and the wider region. As the learning destination of choice, City College Plymouth is uniquely positioned to drive this forward.”
