Despite a delay to its initial release, new shooter game ‘FragPunk’ will launch on console from April 29th, 2025.
FragPunk has already launched on PC earlier this year and they are now rolling out across consoles – with the game set to be made available for both Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 users.
FragPunk will include cross-play
Fans will be relieved to hear that the new console edition will be compatible for cross-play and progression, with console users able to play with the already existing PC users.
The release of FragPunk hasn’t all been plain sailing for developers though as the game’s release date was initially delayed in March earlier this year.
Players will be rewarded for their wait times on the new game though, as FragPunk are rewarding console players with an in-game gift as well as limited time events during the first season.
A post from FragPunk read: “As a token of our gratitude and to make up for the delay, we will be issuing plenty of gifts to console players. These gifts will be sent to all newly registered console game accounts and include exclusive time-limited event rewards from the start of Season 1 up to April 29th.”
When will FragPunk join esports?
There has been no official announcement just yet about whether FragPunk will launch as a new esports game however it possesses all the qualities needed for one.
FragPunk Creative Director and Producer, Xin Chang, seems open to creating an esports event for his game and he conducted an interview at the end of last year about the idea.
Chang interviewed popular content creator Timothy ‘iiTzTimmy’ An, where he asked the esports player whether FragPunk could enter the scene after its release.
“From my personal experience, I think any 5v5 tactical shooter can be an esport even with the randomness. I think the way the genre is alone, it just creates a lot of room for competition even in casual play and ranked.” iiTzTimmy said.
“So I do think there will 100% be a competitive aspect of it. The main thing is just figuring out what type of game mode is competitive, and finding that balance between the cards.”
With FragPunk already pushed into Twitch events this year, it seems like only a matter of time before it enters the esports world.
