In one of the stranger esports incidents this year, a Dota 2 player has been caught falling asleep during a pivotal time in the game which ultimately cost his team the win.

A player for the Mosquito Clan was caught napping (literally) in the FISSURE Special tournament this week with the story going viral across the esports world.

Dota 2 player caught asleep: ‘The Parker Incident’

David ‘Parker’ Nicho Flores reportedly fell asleep between the draft phase and the beginning of the game, with fans quick to point out the AFK player on Reddit.

Parker’s team took a 10 minute break when they noticed he was inactive. With the game being in an online format, it was key that the team found a way to contact Parker and wake him up before the match resumed.

Unfortunately the Mosquito Clan was unable to contact the substitute player and the team was forced to forfeit the game after 41 seconds of in-game run-time.

Parker was acting as a substitute for the Dota 2 team, where he was on standby to replace Yheremi ‘payk’ Arroyo on day 3 of the event.

The Mosquito Clan took to X after the game to explain the strange situation: “By the time of the match against OG, it was already around 5 AM in Peru, and Parker wasn’t prepared in advance to play Dota all night.”

“Unfortunately, at the most crucial moment, he simply didn’t have the energy to finish the game – the human factor is always unpredictable. We would also like to apologize to the organizers of Fissure Special for this accidental technical loss, as well as to the fans who were looking forward to the match.”

The group game was against Team OG and their opponents certainly saw the funny side of the situation, taking to X after the game to dub it “the Parker incident.”

Although the loss to Team OG didn’t knock Parker’s team out of the tournament, a loss in their next game (with Parker fully awake) to L1ga Team was enough to see them knocked out in the preliminary rounds.
