On October 20th, FlyQuest surprised everyone at Worlds 2024 with their exceptional performance by pushing strong LCK team Gen.G to the brink, and forcing a dramatic fifth game. We interviewed support player Gen.G Lehends after their 3-2 win which saw them advance to the Worlds 2024 semi-finals.

Hello Lehends. Congratulations on winning against FlyQuest today! Everyone watching was very excited about the game – it was a complete fiesta. What was your initial reaction after winning?

I survived. Yes, just “I survived.”

They are actually the last Western team in the tournament. This game was surprising for everyone. Are you personally surprised by the result? What do you think your team did best in the series that allowed you to win?

I had so many thoughts after the game. I didn’t make any assumptions about the results – I never do. But it was a tough game, and I had a lot on my mind afterward.

I’m not sure how to describe the feeling. I’m also a little dumbfounded.

It’s very hard to [share one of the things on my mind] because everything is complicated and mixed together. It’s a complicated emotion – the emotions were all intertwined.

‘I’m such a lazy person; I would love to slack off and just be in London. I feel that it has a more relaxed vibe there. The buildings are not as tall as in Korea, and the roads are really wide. When I travel to Europe, I always think the buildings are so nice and beautiful. Whenever I come here, I wish it was a trip and not for work.’

GEN Lehends

What do you think Gen.G hasn’t done well in the tournament? People expected you to win easily, yet it went to five games.

They performed very well, and I think we just didn’t do our best in this series.

When facing Western teams, do you feel that Asian teams might be a little unfamiliar with their compositions?

Yes, I think so. Western teams have a large pool of champion picks when it comes to pick bans.

Seraphine was the hardest to deal with in today’s game, regarding bans.

FlyQuest mentioned that they do not scrim with any Asian teams in this tournament to keep their strategies secret. Do you think this worked for them?

Really, that’s the first time I’ve heard of it. I don’t think it had any impact at all.

From the beginning to now, what is the most memorable thing that happened in this tournament?

I’d say today’s game.

Next year, we have a lot of new changes in the system, like plans to host an additional international tournament. What do you think of the new system?

I don’t know the details, but from what I’ve heard, there will be more games and more tournaments. I have been practicing really hard.

I don’t think it’s going to be too tiring, but there will be more games, and we’ll be practicing more, so that part could be tiring. If we have many more games than we do now, that will definitely be tiring.

A lot of your old teammates are at Worlds this year. Did you talk to them this time you were here? What have you discussed outside of the game, like the scenery, the views, or anything interesting?

We had some unusual conversations. We don’t talk about games; we talked about other things.

(When asked what he talked about) I can’t share this with you.

What is the most surprising thing for you in Europe?

When I travel to Europe, I always think the buildings are so nice and beautiful. Whenever I come here, I wish it were a trip and not for work.

How about London? What do you think of first when you think of London?

I’ve actually been to London. I feel that it has a more relaxed vibe there.

The buildings are not as tall as in Korea, and the roads are wide.

London’s lifestyle suits me a lot. I’m such a lazy person, so I would love to slack off and just be in London.

(To be clear, we had two translations for this part and both gave slightly different answers. Lehends doesn’t mean slack off if Gen.G reach the final, he means slack off and relax outside of esports)

You have a lot of Western fans. Can you say something in English to your fans?

I’m alive. Thanks for cheering. Thank you (smiles).
