A UK student Halo esports circuit, the University Halo League (UHL), has announced its very first LAN event which will be taking place in London.
It’s being organised in partnership with university degree provider College of Esports, which is based in the Olympic Park in London and has access to facilities in and round the Velopark.
The event will take place on Saturday March 23rd 2024.
University Halo League organisers say this is the first step in a future partnership between themselves, the wider European Halo League and the College of Esports, to bring more in-person Halo events to the European scene.
Speaking of which, the news comes a few days after a separate London Halo Major LAN was announced for May 2024, which will be the very first Halo Infinite Major to take place in Europe.
The format for the student University Halo League tournament follows many other university events: four weeks of swiss followed by a double elimination bracket.
“We will take the top four teams from the swiss portion of the tournament through to the LAN, which will be fully broadcast live on our Twitch channel (twitch.tv/EuropeanHalo). Through the support of 343 Industries – which has granted us drops for the LAN – we should achieve wider viewership to help elevate the UK university scene.”
The University Halo League is supported by NSE (National Students Esports) which will help logistically through the use of its website and support of its admin team.
The tournament is also supported by the twin organisation EHL (European Halo League), which is providing funding for the prize pool alongside logistical support and art assets.
“This is largely a community driven effort with artists BB12 (@BB125265) and Goosewasinuse (@Goosewasinuse) providing support to help advertise the events. These events would not be possible without the support of NSE and University Esports throughout the past three years, which has helped us achieve this goal of launching our own LAN as the tournament organiser.”
