The MSI 2023 bracket stage draw has concluded in London today following Golden Guardians’ victory over PSG – here are the eight remaining teams.
The match-ups are as follows:
- May 9th: Gen.G (LCK) vs G2 Esports (LEC)
- May 10th: Mad Lions (LEC) vs T1 (LCK)
- May 11th: Cloud9 (LCS) vs BLG (LPL)
- May 12th: JDG (LPL) vs Golden Guardians (LCS)
The draw was made just now by Excel Esports top-laner Odoamne (who spoke about EU’s chances at MSI 2023 and Excel’s upcoming viewing party here). He was joined on the stage in London by British esports host Frankie Ward, who we have an interview with coming soon.
You can see the full bracket format below, with the losers of the upper playoff bracket of course getting a second chance in the lower bracket thanks to the double elimination format.
The news comes after American side Golden Guardians defeated Taiwan’s PSG Talon 3-0 earlier today. On that note, we have an interview with Wako of PSG coming soon, so check out the Esports News UK YouTube channel to see that drop in the next few days.
This means PSG have been eliminated from MSI 2023, as have Brazil’s Loud, Latin America’s Movistar R7, Japan’s DetonationFocusMe and Vietnam’s GAM Esports.
Golden Guardians, meanwhile, join EU’s G2 and China’s BLG in progressing to the MSI 2023 bracket stage from the play-ins stage.
MSI 2023 bracket stage gives EU an uphill climb vs Korean giants
Both G2 and Mad Lions are representing Europe in the MSI 2023 bracket stage. But they face tough opponents from Korea.
G2 will face Gen.G, while Mad Lions will go up against T1, who of course have the long-time legend of the game on their team, Faker.
European casting talent Medic and Guldborg were not impressed with Odoamne drawing such difficult teams for EU in the MSI 2023 bracket stage!
Mad Lions player Nisqy said:
He then added: “What I’m going to do to Faker, it’s not going to be funny.”
Meanwhile, G2 tweeted:
There is now a one-day break before the MSI 2023 bracket stage begins. It kicks off on Tuesday May 9th 2023 as MSI continues, leading up to the finals climax on Sunday May 21st 2023.
