Liz Truss has today resigned as Prime Minister of the UK. And UK esports reacted in the way it knows best – with memes.
It’s been quite a while since we ran a ‘Memes of the Month’ article (and it’s a bit of a slow news day), so the result is this article.
UK esports personalities, organisations and members of the community took to Twitter to react to the news, with tradmark British wit. We like to have a laugh and we like to have a moan here in the UK, and incidents like today’s exemplify that.
Everyone is talking about it – Google Searches for the term “General Election” have increased 900% since Liz Truss announced resignation at 1pm today, according to Digital Funnel & Russell & Co Accountants.
Truss steps down just 45 days after her time in office as Prime Minister, making her the shortest-serving PM in UK history.
Some joked about there being Twitch subathons that have lasted longer than Truss in office:
London-headquartered Fnatic got a good League meme in:
Speaking of League of Legends, this post reached the top of the game’s subreddit, titled ’the UK has had three Prime Ministers resign since Mundo’s last skin’.
And the official UK Call of Duty (CoD) account also threw a burn Truss’ way, as did Old School RuneScape:
Her time as PM was so short, Truss was outlived by a lettuce in a popular stunt by The Daily Star (pictured above).
Tom ‘Tridd’ Underwood and Nathan Edmonds from UK esports and gaming marketing agency Hotdrop posted some lettuce-based tweets:
Valorant journalist supreme George Geddes also used some clever wordplay around the Prime Minister:
UK CSGO legend and Wolves esports manager Duck managed to compare Truss with a CSGO having a short stint with an esports organisation:
Elsewhere in UK CSGO, the online publication of the same name suggested UK Endpoint player MiGHTYMAX should run for PM:
Speaking of esports orgs, two UK and Ireland orgs got in on the action – Nativz and Clique, while others went for the photoshop option:
Meanwhile, Frankie Ward, another CSGO personality known for her hosting work, didn’t need any words to react to the news. She simply posted a gif of that time Truss rambled on about pork markets.
We’ve rounded up a few more Liz Truss memes, reactions and more from UK esports Twitter below:
The news comes one month after UK esports orgs paid tribute to the Queen.
