Update: Tickets for the Rocket League London Major 2022 are now on sale.
Original:
London’s Copper Box Arena will once again play host to top-tier Rocket League esports action, this time with the 2022 Spring Major heading to UK’s capital.
The Copper Box hosted the Rocket League World Championship back in summer 2018, where Dignitas beat NRG in the final.
Rocket League fans previously referred to the spectacle as ‘LANdon’, and now, after a couple of years without the same amount of live events due to the pandemic, major esports events are starting to crop up in the UK once again.
This weekend played host to the ePremier League finals and Red Bull Golden Letters, with Insomnia Gaming Festival taking place in Birmingham next month and other live events on the horizon.
Psyonix said in the announcement video description: “The RLCS Spring Major is heading to the Copper Box Arena in London, England. It’s the site of “the shot,” from the Season 5 World Championship, where Justin ‘jstn’ Morales hit an unbelievable zero-second goal. It’s time to go back an rewrite history. We’ll see you there.”
The Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) Spring Major is set to start on June 29th 2022 and end on July 3rd. $300,000 will be up for grabs at the major tournament.
The RLCS 2022 Winter Major is currently taking place, with the final between G2 and Team Queso (who have a few UK players) going on as we write this.
Half a year ago, Psyonix announced the RLCS 2021-22 Season with the largest ever Rocket League esports prize pool, new format and regions, The Grid scrapped, plus the return of LANs.
It’s positive to see a major esports tournament coming to the UK, given the fact that some organisers were allegedly put off from hosting events here in recent years due to Brexit.
Elsewhere, the first ever Collegiate Rocket League (CRL) World Championship will be taking place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas from June 3rd to 5th 2022.
And The RLCS 2021-22 World Championship, which is the culmination of the RLCS 2021-22 Season, will be taking place at the Dickies Arena in Dallas, Texas. It’s due to start in August.
