The UK Esports League (UKEL) Summer 2021 League of Legends teams have been confirmed after the promotion tournament concluded a few days ago.
Mythos Gaming and Munster Rugby Gaming dropped down into this tournament after finishing seventh and eighth respectively in the UKEL Spring 2021 Season, and had to compete with Resolve Academy and X7 Esports who came up from the open qualifiers.
Resolve beat Mythos 2-0, X7 defeated Munster 2-0, while Munster then beat Mythos 2-0 to earn their place back in the UKEL.
Elsewhere, in the UKLC relegations tournament, Lucent and Bulldog emerged as the two teams progressing to the UKLC Summer 2021 Season. This happened after Lucent won the UKEL.
So with Lucent being promoted to the UKLC, and Mythos being relegated, this means the final eight teams in the UKEL Summer 2021 Season are as follows:
After Mythos were relegated, their founder Conor ‘Econicity’ Elliman published a statement on Twitter saying they have ceased operations.
“Running an esports organisation is without doubt one of the most stressful but rewarding things I’ve done in my life time,” Conor said. “From seeing our logo branded on players shirts while playing in events as far away as Minnesota, to the lows of staff leaving and trying to keep everyone motivated. Would I change any of it? Absolutely not.
“Covid did have a big part to play on the decline. Being at such a high pre-covid, to then battling a downward spiral the whole way through the pandemic, was tough. It was basically like watching everything you’ve worked on fade away. But I am never letting those negatives outweigh the positives.
“Mythos has brought so many people together, created friendships for life, developed individuals in ways they never thought possible – and most importantly made our dent and history in what is a forever growing amateur esports scene.”
Elsewhere, UK org MNM Gaming were relegated from the higher-tier NLC to the UKLC, top UKLC teams Resolve and London Esports failed to progress through the Telia Masters to the NLC, and will be playing again in the UKLC next season.
And finally, BT Excel finally ‘broke their curse’ to win the Spring 2021 NLC and end Fnatic Rising’s UK LoL reign.
