Current UK League of Legends champions Misfits have been acquired by new owners.
The team, formerly known as Renegades Banditos, had to play in the Challenger Series qualifiers under new branding after Renegades were banned by Riot Games.
Misfits – who successfully qualified for the EU Challenger Series – have now been picked up by eSports Now, reports ESPN.
eSports Now is a new venture founded by digital media and mobile consultant Ben Spoont. Its major investor is Mitchell Rubenstein, who is also the co-founder of the Syfy channel and has a hand in a spate of other firms including Hollywood Media Company.
Misfits have also signed two new players – ADC Steven “Hans” Liv (formerly of Millenium) and support Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun (formerly of KT Rolster).
Hans said: “It has been a huge disappointment as a competitor to not qualify for the LCS last split with Millenium. I’m glad to be offered another chance with Misfits.
“I want to win, I want to go to the LCS and make my dream come true.”

The rest of the roster remains the same: British top laner Barney “Alphari” Morris, Korean jungler Kim “Wisdom” Tae-wan, Polish mid laner Marcin “Selfie” Wolski, French ADC sub Soler “Yuuki60” Florent and Korean support sub Han “Dreams” Min-kook.
Ali “Alicus” Saba remains the team’s manager, while Hussain Moosvi has joined as head coach.
Alicus led Misfits to victory when they were known as Banditos, both in the ESL UK League of Legends Premiership, and at Insomnia57. The team beat ManaLight in both instances.
Alicus told ESPN: “The last weeks have been super challenging as we had to make the best out of an unfortunate situation. Thankfully we were lucky to have some great buyers on the table, but Ben stood out with his commitment to attending to our immediate needs.
“Our team environment is in a really great place at the moment, and as we begin our journey through the Challenger Series, I’m really pumped to see just how far we can make it.”

While the side is very different to how it started out earlier this year, when it had a core of British players, it now has the financial backing of new owners and a nice mix of experienced players that can help it compete in the upcoming EU Challenger Series.
“I am incredibly excited to embark on this new chapter with such a powerful group of players,” Ben Spoont added. “It is an honour to work with quite possibly one of the most dynamic and talented rosters the Challenger Series has seen. We look forward to competing against the other teams and achieving our goal of entering the LCS.”
Misfits doesn’t appear to have a website as yet, but an official Misfits Twitter page has gone live.
The first EU hallenger Series Summer matches get underway this week. Check out the official schedule here.
