Rocket League fans let down by no Unreal Engine 5 announcement at RLCS

The future of Rocket League is still up in the air, with rumours running rampant over what is next.

Especially as there was no major announcement at the Rocket League Championship Series 2025 – World Championships.

The live audience was given a Season 21 teaser, but nothing Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) related was announced at the final.

As you can tell by the boos from the French crowd, the community are hungry for Rocket League to receive a refresh.

The RLCS 2025 final was in front of a loud and passionate French crowd who had been desperately waiting for a Rocket League LAN.

The atmosphere was red hot as NRG defied Rocket League betting odds to become RLCS World Champions.

It felt like the perfect opportunity for a major announcement, but nothing came.

Rocket League commentator and creator Adam ‘Lawler’ Thornton was particularly disappointed with the lack of communication:

If Rocket League is anywhere remotely close to finishing UE5, if it’s still a ways away… You NEED to address it after this RLCS Grand Final.

Even a logo with a “Soon™” would make people go nuts. Not saying or addressing it at all seems like a wasted opportunity.”

There have been rumours for a long time that a new version of Rocket League was being developed with UE5.

There is even a rumour that Rocket League will be moved into Fortnite.

For now, Rocket League fans will have to accept regular gameplay with Season 20.

Rocket League announces RLCS 2026 esports roadmap

Psyonix and Epic Games did at least reveal new details for the 2026 Rocket League esports season with BLAST.

The esport’s ecosystem is getting some much-needed changes, including an additional LAN event.

One of next year’s Rocket League LANs will see a welcome return to France in Paris’ 30k+ capacity La Défense Arena.

Also, after the addition of 1v1 tournaments earlier this year, BLAST has also revealed that 2v2 tournaments are coming to the Rocket League competitive circuit.

And, in a major overhaul, BLAST has updated the Rocket League esports roster eligibility rules.

Now, 3v3 teams must field at least two players who are residents or citizens of the region they’re competing in.

And if teams’ rosters include a substitute, three of the four players must be regional residents/citizens instead.

While not overly common when looking at the rosters that competed RLCS World Championship, it could still leave general managers with a headache.

Especially, as the new season is starting earlier than usual with the first event taking place in November 2025.
