YamatoCannon reveals Los Ratones scrim woes before first LEC wins

Los Ratones coach Jakob ‘YamatoCannon’ Mebdi is understandably delighted after his team picked up their first LEC Versus wins.

After a winless start, the team created by British streamer Marc ‘Caedrel’ Lamont bounced back with two wins.

The first win came against Team Heretics, then Los Ratones made a dramatic comeback against Shifters to double their win tally.

And following that impressive turnaround, YamatoCannon gleefully told his audience: “The Los Ratones magic is finally coming back to us.”

Those two impressive wins are crucial moments for the guest ERL team, which many predicted to finish the season without a win.

The stress on the team had been so high that Los Ratones’ emotional first LEC win over Team Heretics had Caedrel tearing up on his stream.

YamatoCannon explained why the result was so crucial:

“Imagine a world with the pressure of being 0-5, instead of 1-4 and knowing you can win.

“The Heretics game was such an important match for us because it would basically be the cutoff point between us making Playoffs or not, based on the scheduling.

That helped change the attitude of the players, as YamatoCannon was full of praise for his players’ approach to Shifters:

“The main thing that I was very proud of in the Shifters game is the fact that, regardless of the game state, the tone of everything remained the same.

“We looked for opportunities; everyone was on the same page about what to do in the game. There were no signs of any stress or emotion. I really feel like the Los Ratones DNA really kicked in.”

As for the loss against GIANTX, YamatoCannon simply hailed their opponent’s prep, claiming they put the draft in a “chokehold” with Sejuani Yone against Azir.

YamatoCannon reveals Los Ratones’ practice woes

YamatoCannon revealed that Los Ratones were left with no scrim partners last week, other than Karmine Corp Blue, due to their poor start.

“That created a new challenge but also gave us a chance to build a fresh perspective and take some time to be a little bit more introspective,” the coach claimed.

YamatoCannon then proudly announced, “Coming into next week, our scrims schedule is looking a little more plump and filled out… teams are going give us the respect we deserve.”

YamatoCannon stressed how hard practice had been for Los Ratones, especially as the League of Legends 2026 season doesn’t suit the team.

As many had guessed, the snowbally nature of this meta makes getting to late-game team fights, where Los Ratones shine, much more difficult.

YamatoCannon confirmed this, claiming “A lot of things Los Ratones maybe didn’t do so well in the previous year, they got away with… they were very strong individuals, and their team fighting was really clean.

“But now teamwork is more important than ever, obviously would have been important regardless in the LEC, but how we connect, how jungle support plays together, how we play around mid lane, all these details have just become super important, and I’m happy to see the fruits of their labour.”

He revealed that Tim ‘Nemesis’ Lipovšek and Veljko ‘Velja’ Čamdžić had been duo-queueing together to improve their synergy.

Additionally, he said support Martin ‘Rekkles’ Larsson had also been working closely with the duo to ensure that Los Ratones played as a unit.

Los Ratones in LEC Versus 2026 Week 3 preview

Heading into Week 3, Los Ratones still have a chance to finish in the top eight and qualify for the Playoffs.

However, YamataCannon admitted it should be their “toughest week” with games against G2 Esports, Movistar KOI, and Natus Vincere.

The head coach then broke down how he feels about each of Los Ratones’ upcoming opponents.

“G2 I think are trying to figure out how to draft with the new meta, which is their challenge,” YamatoCannon explained as the reigning champions have had a surprisingly slow start.

Meanwhile, he heralded MKOI’s “dynamic” jungle support play, putting their losses down to how “wild” their solo laners play.

He then pointed out that MKOI lost to Shifters and G2 have dropped multiple games, claiming “everything can happen in Bo1s.”

YamatoCannon says it’s about coming in with the right prep, and then was full of praise for NAVI’s coaching staff.

“Respect to them [NAVI]. The Rock, this guy I have to say, with his track record on KCB last year and now with this NAVI team, I do think that this team looks very well coached.

“They have a very clear identity, and I do think the sum of their parts is stronger than the individuals right now, and that’s a very good place to be.

“Props to whoever is working really hard to put the team play together.”

Los Ratones will have to face top teams, but YamatoCannon claims that was what his players had been practising so hard for.

Especially with how short the Winter Split and Los Ratones’ LEC guest slot is.
