New cards are seemingly coming to the Pokémon TCG Pocket mobile game as soon as tomorrow (January 13th).
The Japanese Twitter account for the game posted a cryptic teaser telling fans they can expect three new cards.
When translated, the teaser says: “It seems like there’s some mystery that’s the key to the new cards.”
Players are eagerly awaiting the next expansion, with Pokémon Pocket fans expecting a new item for water types.
Many theories are already running wild about what these cards could be.
Some think the mysterious aspect hints at new MewTwo cards and could signal a new expansion.
Others think the design of the envelopes suggests that the game is getting an expansion based on the Pokémon Legends Z-A game.
The Nintendo Switch 2 title introduced a lot of new Mega Evolutions like Mega Dragonite and Mega Lucario Z.
However, we know that the new expansion likely isn’t releasing until January 29th.
Meanwhile, it could also be a reveal for the upcoming Mega Latios EX event, which starts January 17th.
That event will feature a new solo battle event, which will earn players promo packs with new cards.
Of the five cards available through the event, three are brand new to Pokémon Pocket, not just alternate arts.
This would line up with the three new cards mentioned in the teaser.
Mega Latios EX is a new mega evolution, while there will also be new versions of Onix and Hawlucha.
The Onix has a three-energy attack that deals 90 damage if the player flips heads. While the Hawlucha is the first fighting version of the card.
Deluxe ex packs return
Another theory is that new cards will be added to the returning limited-time Pokémon Pocket Deluxe ex packs.
Thanks to leaks, we know the four-card packs with guaranteed rare cards are returning on January 15th.
The pack was designed to help newer players catch up to older sets with rehashes of old ex cards.
And it was designed to take advantage of FOMO with very rare Full Art Professor Research and Crown Rare Rare Candy cards.
Though that release missed out on cards from Secluded Springs, which was headlined by the Legendary beasts: Suicune, Entei, and Raikou.
New versions of the legendary trio could instead be added to the game as part of Deluxe Pack ex returning to the mobile game.
While helpful to some, Pokémon Pocket completionists would complain new Deluxe cards would make the limited-time set even harder to finish.
