Drew Levin, leader of Product and Strategy on League of Legends, has spent the best part of the year taking on cheaters.
The Rioter became especially vocal on social media this year, calling out smurfs, cheaters and account sellers on Twitter.
This all started back in August, as Riot Games upped its efforts to crack down on behaviour which was ruining millions of games.
He has become the unexpected hero of the LoL community in 2025, so here is a look back at Levin’s best tweets from the year.
Where it all started
Drew Levin quickly got shoved into the spotlight of the LoL community after he called out an ADC player who tried to claim Ashe is weak.
your last two q-volleys where you moved toward Vlad while having Leona on screen walking toward you were extremely illegal and killing Vlad would have made zero difference because you cannot stand there

The expected savageness set off an immediate snowball as players were quickly infatuated with Levin’s blunt comments and relentless replies.
The open communication meant Levin was suddenly flooded by messages and a Twitter spokesperson for Riot Games, whether that was intended or not.
well this was a fun day on the internet

hello to a lot of new friends and gamers
excited to chat with y’all about league and various other things
I will have to figure out how to manage my notifs and mentions, but legit loving the range of chats so far
A few days later, Riot Games revealed they were clamping down on smurfs and alt accounts.
This has been one of the major issues with the game for a long time, with banned players spreading toxicity through multiple accounts or highly-skilled players intentionally playing on lower-ranked accounts to try and feel good about themselves.
Levin was a major contributor to this plan and stressed:
“We see the work of improving game quality as a systemic issue that we have to solve systemically. This is another part of that.”
Riot crackdown on League of Legends smurfs
I dislike how disrespectful smurfing is of the enemy team’s time. if I queue in ranked, I expect i’m 50% to win at baseline. if someone in my lobby is secretly chall, I definitely don’t have 50% to win. If I knew that beforehand I would not have queued for the game.

fair or no? https://t.co/u4mtm35Buw
Levin made his feelings on smurfing very clear, mentioning he hates how it disrespects players’ time, especially with how long LoL games can be.
And turns out, nobody was safe. If you cheated, he would find you.
I would encourage you, in the future, to achieve your ranked results without the assistance of players playing well below their skill level.

Though UK streamer Whatley found the one loophole where even Levin admitted a little bit of account sharing can be ok.
I got nothing man, this is wholesome as fuck.

In one patch, Riot claimed to have punished 400k ranked players and shut down over 1.5 million sold/botted accounts.
Levin shockingly admitted that this was a venture Riot would likely lose money on, but hoped it would improve the game experience.
Without getting into details: we will for sure lose money and monthly actives from the choice to crack down on smurfing. For years, players said we would never do this because we’re too afraid to do the right thing for the game if it loses money. We believe in the game’s future. https://t.co/AbmsS0bze9

All the shutdown accounts and punishments led to a lot of tears and tantrums, something Levin relished.
absolute scenes today watching a bunch of people crash out because they’re starting to understand we’re serious about enforcing our rules and a bunch of other people crash out because they think I have a secret button where I unilaterally ban challengers for giggles

When one tried to gain sympathy for their lost income of no longer being able to sell accounts, Levin had the perfect response.
The roast of the year
While Levin’s McDonald’s tweet was a smash hit, it wasn’t his biggest tweet of the year.
That came months after arguing with cheaters online, especially with one user who repeatedly pleaded innocence.
After growing sick of petty excuses, Levin hit them with this now infamous line.
The tweet even got an honourable mention as LoL’s “Roast of the Year,” making Levin one of the League Awards 2025 winners.
Fast forward a month, and Levin is still having issues with the same user. And despite being on vacation, Levin continues to roast them.
With big League of Legends changes planned for 2026, as well as continued smurf combating and work on ‘LoL 2’, it’s going to be a very interesting year.
Here’s hoping Levin and Riot are getting plenty of rest over the holidays, it sounds like they’ll need it.
