Agnes, better known as ‘Epic Gamer Grandma’, has passed away at 78.
Epic Gamer Grandma became an icon in the gaming space, a beloved TikTok star and a gaming powerhouse who proved beyond a doubt that a love for video games has no limits. Fans from around the world have offered their respects in a global outpouring of appreciation.
“She left this world the way she lived in it: surrounded by love”
Of course, Epic Gamer Grandma was first and foremost, a grandma. Culsans wrote, “for most of her life, Agnes was not ‘an influencer’. She was a daughter, a sister, a mum, a grandma, a neighbour, a friend.”
In his words, “she was home.”

He goes on to explain how, “somehow, in the middle of all that, she became something none of us expected: Scotland’s biggest elderly creator.”
Epic Gamer Grandma certainly brought Scottish flair to her TikTok content, cracking dry jokes and interacting with her fans.
These jokes included claiming that the biggest threat to Five Guys (the burger chain) was “probably six guys,” and that the love of her life, George, passed away because “the opps got him.”

Epic Gamer Grandma had been suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), which had worsened in recent months. Unfortunately, her health challenges also triggered a major stroke, leading to her needing intensive care.
Her grandson, Culsans, frequently updated her devoted online family of followers on her health condition.
Each post shared honest and raw insights into the last few weeks of her life. However, through every post that was made, Culsans and the rest of Epic Gamer Grandma’s family received undying support from fans.
In one of these updates, Culsans professed, “this community is the most inspiring group of souls ever, and I genuinely cannot thank you enough for the strength you have given us.”
On December 23rd, 2025, Epic Gamer Grandma’s family shared the news of her death in a heartfelt and heartbreaking post online.
They confirmed that she had passed away on Sunday, December 21st, at 9:20 am, holding the hand of her daughter.
According to Culsans, “she left this world the way she lived in it: surrounded by love.”

Epic Gamer Grandma’s legacy, in the words of her family
With a presence that so many fell in love with, Epic Gamer Grandma left an incredible legacy, contributing to the global movement welcoming seniors to the gaming world.
Only a few weeks before her passing, a 92-year-old winner emerged victorious in a Tekken 8 esports tournament for seniors, as the community benefits of gaming continue to grow. She exemplified and platformed this growth.
In an industry so often stereotyped as catering to young boys or men, Epic Gamer Grandma proved that a love for games is universal, unbounded, and can be felt deeply by anyone.
Her family’s obituary post, written by Culsans, gracefully commemorates her impact:
“Her L-EGG-ACY leaves a permanent mark on our world, in the forms of:
- Every older person who saw her and realised its not ‘too late’ to try something new
- Every younger person who looked at her and thought ‘age really is just a number’
- Every family who watched her together and found a little bit of light on a dark day
- Ever person who feld less alone because she was honest about being scared, ill, or tired, but still finding reasons to smile.”
Epic Gamer Grandma defied preconceived ideas about what it means to be elderly, through both her love for gaming and her outlandish humour.
Epic Gamer Grandma “reminded people that our elders are not invisible. That they have stories, humour, opinions, and so much love left to give.” This reminder will indeed transcend her lifetime, having connected with many younger generations online.
At the end of their tribute, her family left Epic Gamer Grandma’s fans with reassurance that she will reunite with the love of her life (George, resting peacefully after “the opps got him”):
“You completed the game of life, with a perfect score, and your player 2, George is waiting for you to start another.”
Reflections from the online friends of Epic Gamer Grandma: “You made all of us so happy”
With an incredible 2.4 million followers on TikTok, 118k subscribers on YouTube, and 859k followers on Instagram, Epic Gamer Grandma departed having cultivated a fabulously dedicated group of online friends.
Many of these online friends have also reflected on what she meant to them, and how much they appreciated her audacious online character.
One fan professed that in their eyes, “the world just got a bit darker but heaven got lighter.”
She certainly did bring light to those who loved her, with another fan expressing how “Epic Gamer Grandma made my days better and gave me a good laugh when I thought I couldn’t laugh at all.”

Others have thanked her for sharing her joyous presence online, noting how “she had an impact on all of us.”
Many even refer to her simply as “nana,” “granny,” or “grandma,” indicative of how so many looked up to her as an extension of their own family.
The writers at Esports News UK would also like to extend their gratitude to a woman who expanded horizons and brought a unique sense of love to the gaming space. We hope she is happily defeating “the opps” in heaven with George.
From gamer to grandmother, Agnes certainly left her mark on generations of players.
May the next game be as world-changing as the last.
