Game Changers legend Petra retires from Valorant esports

One of the most decorated women’s Valorant players ever, Petra ‘Petra’ Stoker has shockingly announced her retirement from esports.

Petra won various trophies and tournaments in both Valorant and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) during her illustrious career.

Her esports career spanned over a decade in total, with Petra winning 10 trophies in five years of Valorant.

Now the Dutch competitor has announced he is retiring from competing after unsuccessful contract negotiations with G2 Esports.

Back in April of this year, Petra was controversially benched by the G2 Gozen Valorant team.

However, Petra returned to G2 Gozen for VCT Game Changers and continued to compete alongside the starting roster.

However, after falling short at the tournament and holding contract negotiations, Petra and the organisation mutually agreed to part ways.

Petra took to social media to announce her decision and admitted that retiring was “the hardest decision” she had ever had to make.

Petra revealed: “After a lot of thinking, I’ve decided not to continue my career with a new team.

“I want to say from the bottom of my heart how grateful I am for the support I’ve received throughout all these years. To everyone who believed in me, and especially to my teammates… thank you. You gave me some of the best memories of my life, both inside and outside the server.”

While stepping away from competing, Petra promised she’ll stay in touch with her fans:

“Even though I’m stepping away from competing, I won’t disappear completely.”

“I still love this scene, this community, and this game and I will find my own way to stay connected. I’ll see you on my Twitch channel.”

Petra’s prestigious esports career

While synonymous with Valorant’s women’s esports scene, Petra found a lot of success in CS:GO too.

She won multiple events, including Copenhagen Games 2018 – Female, DreamHack Showdown Valencia 2019, DreamHack Showdown Summer 2020: Europe, and DreamHack Showdown Winter 2020: Europe.

And Petra acknowledged that time during her retirement announcement, saying:

“I will never forget my CS:GO career. That’s where it all began, and those moments shaped me into the player and person I am today.”

That experience allowed Petra to become remarkably composed and clutch during high-pressure scenarios when competing in Valorant.

Petra and G2 Gozen dominated the Game Changers scene in EMEA, winning the region’s Game Changers trophies nine times in total.

The majority of those wins came during G2 Gozen’s dominant run between 2021-2023, which also saw Petra win the first-ever Game Changers World Championship back in 2022.

However, this year, G2 Gozen weren’t as fortunate after a heartbreaking result saw them fail to make the Valorant Game Changers Championship 2025 top four.

G2 Gozen were eliminated by MIBR after losing twice in overtime, losing the series 2-1 despite winning more rounds in the best-of-three in total.
