Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has teamed up with the Federation of Sport to launch a new gaming hub in Hull.
It is the Belgian star’s first major UK venture as he continues to expand his influence in the esports industry.
Plans for the cutting-edge £1.6m immersive gaming centre were revealed last year, with the Federation of Sport venue based in Hull’s Old Town.
As reported by the Hull Daily Mail, the doors have now officially opened for the venue, which will create 50 jobs in Hull’s city centre.
What did Thibaut Courtois say about the gaming hub in Hull?
In June, it was revealed that Thibaut Courtois had partnered with the Federation of Sport to launch the Hull gaming hub.
He said at the time: “The Federation of Sport represents everything I believe in. Using technology not just for entertainment but as a way to build communities.
“As someone passionate about sim sports and esports, I see this as an opportunity to inspire young people to connect, compete, and collaborate in a positive environment. It’s about getting them out of their rooms and into a space where they can share their love for gaming with others.”
Earlier in his career, Courtois played against Hull City three times for Chelsea during the 2010s.
What is the Federation of Sport in Hull?
The Federation of Sport venue in Hull will feature esports, PC gaming, golf simulators, sim racing rigs, virtual reality escape and team combat experiences, interactive darts and more.
It is based at King William House and aims to host esports tournaments for all ages and skill levels.
There are reportedly plans for future venues to be opened in Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. It could also be expanded overseas to Spain, the Netherlands and the UAE.
Co-founder Antonio Tombanane said: “This is just the start. The Federation of Sport has huge potential. Launching in Hull proves we’re building something ambitious, and I can’t wait to see this grow internationally.
Thibaut Courtois’ involvement in esports
Courtois has previously helped launch sports organisations TC Esports and TC Racing and also owns Spanish esports organisation, DUX Gaming.
TC Esports focuses on sim racing and competes in the Prodigy Racing League. He has also established his own racing team in the Spanish F4 championship.
The Real Madrid goalkeeper himself participated in online sim racing events, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He raced alongside drivers from the Formula One grid, including two of the contenders for the 2025 championship, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.
