Overwatch 2 hero 45 revealed as giant sword-wielding Vendetta

Blizzard has revealed Overwatch 2’s latest hero, Vendetta. She is an Italian melee-based character with some already deep lore.

Nicknamed ‘La Lupa’ (The She-Wolf in Italian), she appears to have ties to the Talon group from Overwatch’s lore.

A brand new animated cinematic trailer showcased Vendetta battling on the Colosseo map with a sword made of light, like what Symettra uses.

Here is everything we know so far about Overwatch 2’s 45th hero.

Will Vendetta be a tank or a DPS in Overwatch 2?

Overwatch fans are already unpacking every part of the trailer to figure out what new class Vendetta will be.

Blizzard hasn’t officially answered what type of hero she’ll be, but it seems like she’ll either be a DPS or a damage-focused tank.

Having her as a DPS character would make her the first melee DPS character, an answer to Magik from Streamer Awards-nominated Marvel Rivals.

Some argued this was unlikely as Blizzard already added a damage character to Overwatch 2 earlier this year in Freja.

Meanwhile, the last tank added to the game was the Scottish hero Hazard, who was released last November.

However, it seems likely that Vendetta will, in fact, be a DPS hero after all, judging by this email sent to Overwatch players:

“Overwatch 2’s 45th Hero steps into a spotlight built on a throne of violence, and her new Hero Trailer pulls back the curtain on the Italian Damage Hero who turned her stolen future into a weapon.”

Many thought her ability to block bullets with her sword in the trailer would be a tank ability.

But it also works for a melee DPS hero who will need survivability abilities like that in order to get close, just like Genji’s reflect.

What is Vendetta’s lore in Overwatch 2?

The new trailer revealed that Vendetta is the daughter of Antonio Bartalotti, the man who founded the Talon terrorist organisation.

Back in the original Overwatch 1, there was a co-operative mission players could take on called Retribution. 

This mission involved Reaper, Cassidy, Genji, and Moira as members of Blackwatch, Overwatch’s covert ops division.

At the start of Retribution, Reaper kills Antonio Bartalotti, an event that not only set up the missions in Overwatch 1 but also what drives Vendetta.

The appropriately named hero now wants revenge on Overwatch, or at least the Blackwatch members, for assassinating her father.

When will Vendetta release in Overwatch 2?

Vendetta is set to release with the launch of Overwatch 2, Season 20 on December 9th.

However, she will be playable before then as part of a limited-time hero trial.

This trial is set to take place between November 26th and December 1st, as confirmed by Blizzard.

Overwatch players have plenty to look forward to, including the return of the Overwatch World Cup at BlizzCon 2026.
