The game is a follow-up to the digital LoL TCG, Legends of Runettera, though the two are unrelated despite Riftbound using a lot of LoR’s art.
Riftbound is designed to be played both socially and competitively with 1v1, 2v2, and free-for-all multiplayer formats all supported.
The Origins set features over 300 cards with ready-to-play Champion Decks for Jinx, Lee Sin, and Viktor, as well as the Proving Grounds starter box available for new players.
The Proving Grounds starter box sets are designed to play with two to four players and contain Annie, Garen, Lux, and Master Yi decks.
Meanwhile, Booster Packs contain 14 random cards each with a variety of rarities, while Booster Boxes contain 24 packs, so 336 cards in total.

Each Champion Deck includes 56 cards with a variety of types, including units, legends, champions, spells, gear, runes, and battlegrounds.
Riot Games has also announced some of its future plans for the game, with the next set, Riftbound Spiritforged, releasing in English on February 13th, 2026.
The publisher has also promised that they plan to release four expansions for Riftbound each year, starting in 2026.
Next year will be a big one for Riot Games as fighting game 2XKO is in early access and has promised five new champions in 2026.
Having built various successful esports, like League of Legends and Valorant, Riot also wants to help Riftbound’s competitive scene.
Riftbound’s first competitive season will start soon with the first English Regional Qualifier taking place on December 5th -7th in Houston, Texas.

Speaking about Riftbound’s English release, Riftbound’s Executive Producer Chengran Chai said:
“With Riftbound, we built something that players could connect with for years to come.
From in-store Nexus Nights to large form competitive events, we’re expanding League of Legends’ universe in ways that can evolve alongside the community.
“As Riot continues to venture into the larger multimedia landscape, Riftbound represents our ongoing efforts to give fans a new way to experience Runeterra beyond the screen.”
Many in the esports scene are exploring new multimedia approaches, as esports team G2 Esports announced its first web comic, Red Aura.
Riftbound’s Game Director Dave Guskin says the game has accomplished what it set out to do:
“We seized an opportunity to create something unique that resonates with both League of Legends fans and TCG enthusiasts.
“Riftbound embodies the depth, strategy, and sense of community that define both League of Legends and the TCG genre.
“The result: A physical card game that captures the imaginations of TCG enthusiasts and offers the League of Legends community a hands-on way to engage with the world and champions they love.”
