Shopify Rebellion win final Halo Infinite World Championship

Shopify Rebellion have won the Halo World Championship 2025 with a 4-1 Grand Final victory over OpTic Gaming.

The event is the last Halo Championship Series (HCS) Halo Infinite esports event, as the franchise prepares for its next instalment.

OpTic suffer third consecutive Grand Finals defeat

OpTic’s defeat meant the roster suffered its third consecutive Grand Finals defeat.

The OpTic roster, fronted by multi-esport FPS legend Matthew “FormaL” Piper, has made the last four Halo World Championships Grand Finals, but only won the first.

Last year’s defeat resulted in OpTic’s roster being blown up, except for FormaL, with a hand-picked superteam of stars hoping to put OpTic back at the top of Halo.

Yet the project fell bitterly short to a Shopify Rebellion whose sharpshooting was backed up by unbreakable teamwork and coordination.

Shopify Rebellion took a 1-0 series lead after Capture the Flag on Aquarius, before OpTic equalised the series on Recharge.

However, that was the last moment the series was close with SR blowing OpTic away on Live Fire, Lattice and Origin to secure the Bo7 series 4-1 to lift the Halo World Championship.

After the disappointment of defeat, FormaL took to X to reflect on his return to Halo, stating:

“So many what if’s throughout my journey back in Halo. I appreciate anyone who paid attention to it even at all, the tournaments the streams the wins and the losses. Obviously not where we wanted this journey to end, but I’m still glad I decided to play again.

“We put in so much work before this event but just couldn’t pull it all together today, definitely the worst feeling knowing we were better than we showed.

“Not really sure what’s around the corner for me but I just wanted to say thank you for the support throughout these four years, it truly made a difference. GGs and congrats to Shopify.”

What’s next for Halo Infinite esports?

Tahir ‘Tashi’ Hasandjekic, Esports and Viewership Lead for the Halo franchise at 343 Industries, first revealed that the Halo World Championship 2025 would be the last HCS event in July.

As part of that message, Tashi indicated that Halo Infinite would continue to receive some esports support, but that HCS for Halo Infinite was concluding with the World Championship, stating, “As the studio continues to shift more and more towards the next era of Halo, we feel this is the right time for Official HCS Competition to move on from Halo Infinite.”

He continued, “So, when will Official HCS competition return for a new title? While we look forward to the day, it will not be in 2026. As always, we will keep the community up to date with the latest and expect another update from us on that front at some point late next year.”

So Halo fans will have to wait until at least 2027 to see Halo’s premier competition return. The date is unknown, and the game that the next HCS will be played on is unannounced.

Overall, the future of Halo esports is in a very uncertain place.
