Community reacts to unpopular Pokémon TCG Pocket update

Pokémon fans are frustrated with the new Deluxe Pack ex update in the mobile game, Pokémon TCG Pocket.

The new expansion brings hundreds of already-released cards, including various ex cards, into new limited-edition packs.

These packs then guarantee that players will earn a card of at least two-star rarity in each one.

While this sounds generous, the way the expansion has been handled has left many Pokémon Pocket players furious.

In fact, a lot seem to think that the Pokémon Pocket Deluxe Pack ex update is a complete rip-off.

Pokémon Pocket Deluxe Packs don’t count towards previous collections

Bizarrely and cruelly, these ‘reprinted’ cards in Deluxe Packs ex do not count towards each Pokédex.

This means, while the pack is designed to help new players catch up, these cards do not count towards completing previous collections.

Completionists are understandably livid for various reasons. For starters, these new cards won’t help them finish old packs.

And because of that, Wonderpicks have become a mess as the new packs fill all of their options.

Especially as these new cards will show up as owned and wishlisted even if players don’t own or want these new versions.

This has created mass confusion and frustration with how poorly planned out this Pokémon Pocket update has been.

Plus, it also appears borderline impossible to complete the massive 353-card Deluxe Pack ex collection, especially without spending money.

Strangely, there are two versions of all the common cards with a new metallic layer making the slightest difference in appearance.

Additionally, any old cards collected won’t count towards this new dex, despite the two cards being identical.

And many are annoyed that to make up for the guaranteed rare card, DeNa has reduced these ‘Deluxe’ packs from five cards down to four.

The packs are limited edition and will only be available for a month before the leaked release date of the Pokémon Pocket Mega Evolutions update.

So if this collection wasn’t hard enough to complete already, the tight time limit has killed off the chance for 99% of the playerbase.

Pokémon Pocket players left bewildered by lack of menu improvements

Pokémon Pocket has been out on mobiles now for almost a year, and yet there are a lot of day-one complaints still unaddressed.

DeNa seemed to have finally listened by adding an option to bulk-buy all available hourglasses in the ticket shop at once.

However, the same cannot be said for rental decks, which most players will never use.

Yet, players have to slowly click each deck one by one to remove the notification.

With the size of this new expansion, removing all of these notifications is tedious to say the least.

Players lose motivation to play Pokémon Pocket

With no chance of completing the new expansion and feeling used by some of the update’s greedier tendencies, players are giving up on Pokémon Pocket.

It’s natural that player bases get tired of a TCG game once it has been out for a while, metas tend to get stale and each update becomes less exciting.

But considering many highly-requested changes like adding a dark mode are still unanswered, regular players are fed up.

Some are even begging other fans to stop spending money on the game in hopes that DeNa will begin to listen more.
