The LEC is on a week-long break, leaving fans with an extended wait for the LEC Summer 2025 finals in Madrid.
There have been numerous complaints about the LEC format and schedule this Summer.
The latest complaint is now this seemingly pointless break bang in the middle of the most important part of the season in EMEA.
Now, LEC commissioner Artem Bykov has explained has exactly why Riot Games decided to add this break to the schedule.
Yesterday, Fnatic swept GIANTX 3-0 to keep their LoL Worlds dreams alive.
However, the team will have to wait 10 days between series to find out their Worlds destiny.
Meanwhile, G2 Esports will head into the final having not played an official match for three weeks.
Bykov admitted that ‘week breaks aren’t fun’ but promised the finals would be worth the wait.
He also revealed that the reason for the delay is so Riot can set up the broadcast for the live show in Madrid:
“It’s all about logistics. We’re moving a huge amount of gear from Berlin to Spain by truck and Madrid is the furthest trip we’ve had compared to Montpellier, Munich, or Malmö.”
“Less than 24 hours after FNC vs GX, our trucks are already packed and will hit the road to Madrid tonight. That turnaround is no small feat and takes the effort of an entire crew.”

Bykov also explained why the LEC team couldn’t rent equipment locally in Spain instead:
“Running a show of this scale isn’t plug-and-play.
“The LEC’s competition setup relies on highly specialised gear and workflows that we’ve fine-tuned over years.”
“We do get support from our local partners for some of the required hardware,” Bykov added before clarifying
“Though using our own equipment means we can guarantee the same level of quality, reliability, and unforgettable experience fans expect both online and in the arena.
LEC Summer Split Playoffs Madrid Finals 2025 preview
Just four teams remain in the LEC Summer Playoffs as the EMEA season prepares for its final week.
It’s the usual suspects as the clear top four of G2 Esports, Fnatic, Movistar KOI and Karmine Corp battle it out for Worlds ranking.
Having breezed through the upper bracket, G2 will be LoL betting sites’ favourites for the LEC title.
However, as mentioned earlier, the break could kill their momentum and give another team a chance.
Meanwhile, the Fnatic vs KCorp series is critical as the winner will qualify for Worlds while the loser will see their season come to an end.
