Post-tournament win interview with G2’s malbsMD at BLAST Open London
You’re known for being an emotional player. What was the emotion when you lifted the trophy today?
It felt really good because, as everyone knows, I had a really tough season at the beginning of the year, and it was like fighting my demons.
But now it feels like I’m relieved, and it feels really good.
As you say, there were regrets attached to Niko leaving for you. How does it feel to be able to rebuild with this new roster and win after that kind of unknown period?
It feels really good, mostly because people were underestimating us.
I think some fans and everything were not respecting our job, and it feels really good to just demonstrate to the world that we’re capable of just playing good CS, even though we don’t have any superstars, you know?
I mean we have HeavyGod, but yeah.
You say that you don’t have any superstars, but I feel like maybe you have a team that is just all incredible and can hit their shots. How do you feel when you’re making those moves, getting those trades? Are you very confident in your teammates?
That is a special part of this team, I think. Nobody is egoing anyone.
I think everyone is willing to make space for everyone; everyone is willing to die for anyone. Nobody is baiting just for stats.
For example me, I’m always going in front, I don’t care if I die or not or if I kill or not.
I think it just feels special how good we are playing and how we don’t really care about stats or anything like that, we just care about winning and playing good CS.
Obviously, it was a really long series so I’m not going to pick your brains about every single aspect of it, but what are your reflections on the amazing moments from that match? For example, you had that AWP hold on Inferno, what did that feel like?
Yeah that one gave me kind of Stewie2K throwbacks on Boston Major. I guess it’s just NA playstyle.
But just leaving the jokes aside, I think it was a really good moment because we were on the comeback and I just took the AWP.
We lost an entrance, SunPayus, I took the AWP, and then all of a sudden I just go 3, hold the B site, and I never take the AWP you know? It was really good.
Matys and HeavyGod in the last map had so much impact, but so did everyone else like Hunter as an IGL. How does it feel when these guys are just popping off and seeing clips in the server?
It feels good. I’m actually really happy for my teammates. I think they deserve to be shining.
Like, for example with Matys and HeavyGod, I think they’re playing really good and they’re putting a lot of effort into the game, and it just makes me really happy that it’s showing up on everything.
Finally, looking forward to the rest of the season. The Major is in December, still a long way away, but how do you assess your opportunities for that and for the other tournaments?
If we keep playing the way we’re playing right now, I think we have a good chance of at least making playoffs, which is what everyone is looking for.
And obviously if we play like we just did, we can win the whole thing, maybe.
I don’t know, it depends on how we prep and everything. But I think we have a really good chance.
