Esports News UK spoke to Matúš ‘Matys’ Šimko after G2’s dominant 13-5, 13-5 victory over Furia in the Semi-Finals of BLAST Open London.

The Slovakian joined G2 in July from Fnatic, but has faced no issue integrating into the talented G2 lineup, now led by Nemanja ‘huNter-‘ Kovač.

Post-Match interview with G2’s Matys at BLAST Open London

A great victory here against FURIA, it felt like you dominated for a lot of the match. How are you guys feeling?

I think we are really happy. We showed that we can play against the best teams in the world, no matter what the paper shows, if we are non-aimers.

You know, I joined suddenly from Fnatic, people had many question marks because stars like NiKo and m0NESY left, but as we can see, we can be dominant as today.

But we also, we are also going in humble to every single match. We knew FURIA are a good team, tomorrow with Vitality it’s going to be the same.

We will try to be confident but also humble at the same time because we respect our opponents.

You guys have great strength in depth, so how does it feel to have such talented players around you? Obviously, you came from Fnatic. How does it feel to have confidence in your teammates?

It feels amazing to be honest, like it’s been a big switch compared to Fnatic, because it’s again four completely different players in my team.

Also, I react differently because I also change based on what team I have, basically. That’s who I am. And also a completely different coach.

I would say right now becoming, very quickly, comfortable with each other.

We’ve been together for two months, but for sure on the start it was kind of a little bit struggle, like what positions we gonna play, who is gonna be more supportive, who is gonna be more aggro.

But I think we are balancing very well, to be honest, and we are showing it especially in this tournament.

As you say, there are a lot of really sharp gamers in the team, so how are you finding your own positions in the team?

So far I would say this tournament showed that I can do whatever. If I said it to myself, for example, I can switch to any position, if I say to myself I’m gonna play it good, I will do anything to make myself good at the position.

For example, B Apps Mirage, then we’re gonna be good, we’re gonna be good. We just need to commit to it, and so far it’s working, so let’s see what’s gonna happen, what the future is gonna bring to us.

So it feels like coming into Tier one and going into an arena, it really doesn’t feel like you’ve had to adjust at all. How has it felt for you?

For me, I think I play way better offline, like especially at LAN events, because I cannot lose focus too much, for example, getting frustrated.

My mentality is way stronger offline compared to online. I think that’s a big factor.

And it works for almost everyone to be honest, and it looks like the stage is getting also way better compared to online. We can play very much stronger under pressure. I would say, right now, as compared to online, compared to what we have shown last event before, Blast online, for example.

Even though we qualified through Spirit, but now we showed we can play way better offline compared to online, and we will try to keep it that way for sure.

Also we can get better online because I think sometimes we can have a stronger mentality, I would say, but it’s normal, I think, for almost every team in the world.

Looking forward to Vitality, they’re an extremely strong roster with a lot of very unique players, so what are you kind of looking at to kind of exploit tomorrow?

Honestly we’ll see, we’ll have to work tonight, we’ll see what we find, but I think it’s going to be call against call like today, we know they can do many stuff as a team, as individuals and it’s going to be basically who will have the better lead I would say and who is going to shoot better.

Yes and just last of all, you know, just coming into Tier 1, what would it mean for you to lift the Tier 1 trophy?

It would be amazing, it would be my first stage actually here in Blast in London, if I would be able to even win it, that would be amazing for sure, amazing start.
