The Battlefield 6 multiplayer gameplay reveal event has got players hyped for the upcoming beta and release of the newest addition to the Battlefield franchise. The event, featuring LAN matches between esports pros and content creators, gave a glimpse of the esports potential of the game.
Esports theming seemed central to the event, which was hosted by Valorant’s premier casting duo, Michael ‘hypoc’ Robins and Britain’s Lauren ‘Pansy’ Scott.
Amongst the event’s invitees were dozens of players associated with esports: 100 Thieves’ Nadeshot, Tarik, OpTic Scump, Call of Duty’s Methodz, Call of Duty GOAT Shotzzy, Apex Legends’ Nicewigg, Counter-Strike’s fl0m, GiantX’s Leviathan… the list goes on and on.
While the event was certainly a for-fun experience for the content creators, former esports pros and publications invited to the event, the whole event had a distinct esports-on-LAN flavour, which raises the question of whether the game could be 2025’s new esports title and whether that is a sector EA Dice is targeting.
Esports News UK contacted EA Dice to enquire about its esports ambitions, but has yet to receive a reply.
What are Battlefield 6’s modes?
Battlefield 6’s Multiplayer Launch revealed eight modes across nine maps, with Battlefield classics returning and a new mode, ‘Escalation.’
Maps at launch (and their settings) were revealed as:
- SIEGE OF CAIRO (EGYPT)
- IBERIAN OFFENSIVE (GIBRALTAR)
- LIBERATION PEAK (TAJIKISTAN)
- EMPIRE STATE (NEW YORK)
- OPERATION FIRESTORM (OIL FIELD)
- SAINTS QUARTER (GIBRALTAR)
- NEW SOBEK CITY (CAIRO)
- MIRAK VALLEY
- MANHATTAN BRIDGE (NEW YORK)
Modes have been listed with Squad Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill, and Domination all appearing in the release. All-out-warfare modes at launch include Conquest, Breakthrough, Rush, and Escalation.
Escalation is the new mode added for Battlefield 6. The mode is similar to Conquest, in that it features capture points to be contested between the teams, but it innovates on that formula with the size of the battlefield and number of capture points reducing as the game mode goes on, leading to hotly contested, tight zones at the end.
Essentially, Escalation seems to be Conquest meets Battle Royale.
Speaking of which, Battle Royale was not part of the Multiplayer launch, but confirmation of the mode came later on Twitter with Global Community Manager, Kevin Johnson, stating, “Yes, Battle Royale arrives on Battlefield Labs. Soon. And on the topic of Battlefield Labs, you’ll be getting Early Access to the Open Beta – even if you didn’t manage to get into the program. We got you”
Battle Royale will be free-to-play, but when players can exactly play it is as of yet unclear. At the very least, its absence from the announcement implies it will be after the October 10 BF6 launch.
