Wimbledon Semi-finalist Taylor Fritz is in the top 12% of LoL players

Wimbledon tennis Semi-finalist Taylor Fritz is a top LoL player

One of the world’s best tennis players, Taylor Fritz, has confirmed he has an impressive rank in League of Legends.

The American is ranked number five in men’s tennis and recently qualified for this year’s Wimbledon Semi-final.

There, he will face off against the winner of British star Cameron Norrie versus the reigning Wimbledon champion, Carlos Alcaraz.

Now, Fritz has confirmed in an Instagram comment that he is also Emerald 3 in LoL, putting him above well over 80% of the game’s player base.

That’s especially impressive when you consider that LoL has over 125 million active monthly players.

Fritz regularly streams himself gaming on his Twitch channel, Taylorfritz97, where he has raised over $600k in charity gaming tournaments.

He has also collaborated with Los Ratones, the League of Legends team of UK Twitch superstar Marc ‘Caedrel’ Lamont.

In one stream, Fritz was given some coaching and jungling tips by Los Ratones’ Veljko ‘Velja’ Čamdžić

Fritz is also an esports fan. He was one of the 14,500 who watched Faker and T1 win LoL Worlds 2024 in the O2 Arena.

The Worlds Semi-finals were held in Paris last year, just before Fritz competed at the Paris Masters.

As a result, he attended the LoL Worlds 2024 semi-finals and then flew over to London for the final.

Fritz told the Associated Press about his experience at the tournament last year:

“The O2 Arena was packed. It was honestly one of the coolest things I’ve ever been to.”

He also told the press about why he enjoys gaming: “I’m such a competitive person, so I like to compete in other ways.

“It sounds crazy, but the game — and especially the position I play in the game — is very mentally taxing and mentally draining. I have to be super dialled in.”

The latter quote is why the jungle main says he, understandably, doesn’t play LoL games before a tennis match.

Famous celebrities who play League of Legends

With LoL’s popularity, it isn’t a surprise that the game has many other famous celebrity players.

One of the best-known cases is the band Imagine Dragons, who performed at Worlds 2024 and appear in Arcane on Netflix.

Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber once tweeted out that he had started playing LoL and that Teemo was his favourite champion.

Fritz isn’t the only athlete either, with former NBA player Gordon Hayward and former NFL player Chris Kluwe both keen LoL players.

AEW wrestler Claudio Castagnoli is fittingly a tank player with Sion being his main champion.

American politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has also streamed herself playing LoL on Twitch to huge audiences.

As for the UK, English Actor Simon Pegg has confessed to being a LoL fan in previous interviews.
