EA Sports have announced that Diogo Jota’s cards in FC 25 Ultimate Team will be price locked to the current market’s price ranges.
Additionally, EA have stated that, out of respect, Jota’s cards will no longer appear in Ultimate Team packs.
The news comes after Liverpool and Wolves forward Diogo Jota sadly passed away on Thursday in a car crash.
This is the the usual process EA Sports have taken in the past after footballers have tragically passed away.
However, the publishers also posted paid tribute to Jota on social media due to his unique ties with the franchise.
The statement read: “We are heartbroken by the news of Diogo Jota’s passing.
“Diogo was not only an exceptional footballer, but also a true friend and talented member of the FC family whose abilities were renowned amongst the community.
“Our thoughts are with his family, his teammates, and all who knew him. Rest in peace, Diogo.”
Jota was known for being a passionate gamer and a very good EA FC player.
In a touching tribute online, Liverpool teammate Connor Bradley recalled Jota tricking him into facing him in FIFA:
“Always remember the first time you invited me to your room to play FIFA I think everyone knows where this is going…
“We was playing and by half time I’m pretty sure I was 5-0 down that was the last time I was ever falling into that trap.”
Infamously, Jota had to quit an online FIFA tournament qualifer because he was going to be late to play for Liverpool.
His sacrifice paid off as Jota scored a brace in their 4-0 win over Southampton.
This is just one of the many stories in Diogo Jota’s gaming and esports legacy.
Diogo Jota’s close ties to EA FC esports
Jota was also a huge esports fan and was the owner of his own team, Luna Esports.
It was one of his Luna players who won the Esports World Cup EA FC 24 championship.
Consequently, EA FC Pro, the official acccount for the franchise’s esports scene, posted an addional tribute on Twitter :
“He was a champion in every sense of the word.
“From lifting trophies for club and country to reaching Rank 1 in FUT Champions, Diogo lived and breathed the game.
“His passion for FC and FC Pro was real, and it showed every time he picked up a controller.
“He showed us you could be elite in both worlds — and made it all feel possible for the rest of us.”
This was just one of the many tributes Diogo Jota received from the esports community.
In my seven years of esports writing, I’ve introuduced esports coverage to newspapers, interviewed some of the biggest names in the industry, and driven viewers mad with the puns in my YouTube scripts. I’m most proud of the latter.
