Grant Rousseau, Global Director of Esports and Operations for Team Falcons, has announced his intention to step down from Team Falcons after the conclusion of EWC 2025. It brings to an end a three-year stint at the organisation, in which he has overseen expansion into several esports.

In his statement, he outlined his decision to leave the organisation, stating, “In what’s been one of the hardest decisions of my life, I’ve decided that it is time for me to move on from this incredible organisation and start on a new path later this year.”

In his role at Falcons, Grant Rousseau drove Team Falcon’s strategic planning in entering a vast number of esports, including Valorant, Apex Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, PUBG, and DotA2, as well as contributing to the already established Falcons Counter-Strike roster, which has seen its ambitions heightened in the past few years.

“Falcons now span 5 different continents, with over 200 players and over 25 teams. It’s actually quite insane how far we’ve come in such a short period of time.”, Rousseau reflected.

Rousseau will be taking his next step in an esports career in which he has played a significant role in some of esports’ most notable organisations, including Counter Logic Gaming (CLG), Splyce, GIANTX, Guild Esports, and Team Falcons.

ESL One Birmingham

Rousseau included a tribute to Falcon’s DotA 2 team. stating, “Special shoutout to the Dota 2 team for picking up that ESL Birmingham Major for me on my home soil in front of my family. That is a memory I will never forget.”

The DotA 2 roster took home the ESL One Birmingham trophy after defeating BetBoom 3-0 in the Birmingham NEC, allowing the Brit to celebrate a major victory in his home nation.

Team Falcons and the Esports World Cup

The announcement comes just weeks before the second iteration of the Esports World Cup. EWC promises events for 24 esports titles over seven weeks of competition. The EWC 2025 schedule can be viewed here.

While the importance of the Esports World Cup varies from title to title, there is no doubt that Falcons’ focus is squarely on their home event, with the organisation defending their 2024 title for which they adorned their jerseys with a commemorative star.

Despite the importance of the event to Team Falcons, the EWC has been criticised for alleged sportswashing, with the debate about Saudi Arabia’s treatment of LGBTQ+ sparking the recent withdrawal of Team Orchids from the ALGS Midseason Playoffs.
