Caedrel responds to PapaSmithy co-stream comments

Marc ‘Caedrel’ Lamont has responded to comments made by FlyQuest’s President & Chief Gaming Officer, Chris ‘PapaSmithy’ Smith, regarding the interaction between broadcast talent and co-streaming.

Following comments from PapaSmithy, which implied Caedrel’s co-streams were directly responsible for broadcast talent missing certain opportunities, the British streamer and Los Ratones coach/owner, responded by emphasising his appreciation for the broadcast talent but admitted that his streams had “repercussions” on the League of Legends broadcasting scene.

Caedrel’s on-stream comments

Following rampant discussion on X and Reddit, Caedrel took to his stream to give his perspective on the co-streaming debate. Caedrel began by praising the talent present at MSI and lamenting that talented names had missed out:

“There’s a lot of cool names missing from MSI which sucks. I’m super happy for the people that are there… I think they’ve obviously cut a lot of names, I don’t know if that’s budget or other reasons or Visas, I don’t know how it works. Usually, for MSI there are way more.” Later, adding “Every single name on this list is world-class, and even some names not on this list are world-class.”

The Brit clarified that he was not mad at PapaSmithy but provided his own perspective about his streams and their consequences:

“The last few years I’m just grinding my thing, and my thing has been going really well… As I was going down the path of doing my thing, and everything went great, but obviously now there’s a side that is like ‘CAEDREL’S FAULT.’

“I did my thing, and it affected others. There were repercussions, and it was my fault some of these things, but unknown to me, with me just working super hard in what I wanted to do. These repercussions arose, and I became the centre of discussion… It’s a very strange position.”

Caedrel concluded by emphasising the importance of casters and broadcast talent in his own streams, noting that he has recently given them more presence on his stream in important moments by upping the main feed volume. “I feel like the are so many good casters. That’s why my favourite thing is the volume increase [of the main stream]… I don’t know if I could ever costream without the casters.”

PapaSmithy reignites co-streaming debate

Co-streaming in League of Legends has been a hot topic over the last year, with various comments sparking debate about the monetisation of League and its implications for the scene. The issue came to a head in November 2024 when LPL announced a co-stream-only model for 2025, depriving several British and Irish talent of official broadcast positions.

That debate was reignited following PapaSmithy’s X post reacting to the MSI talent announcement. The post stated:

“Riot has an embarrassment of riches in League of Legends English casting talent in 2025, but the only independent variable of success is whether Caedrel turns on his co-stream or not. End result: Great people sit at home.”

PapaSmithy later stated, “Caedrel is my friend, I watch his stream all the time, meme in his chat, and he does a great job. There is no chance he doesn’t understand the point I’m making here, and no chance he is offended, so please don’t be offended on his behalf”
