Adding to the expansive Fortnite universe, Epic Games has released a new PvE (player vs. environment) game mode named LEGO Fortnite Expeditions.
The game mode ties in with the main Battle Royale game’s Supernova Academy theme.
What is LEGO Fortnite Expeditions?
Epic Games launched the original LEGO Fortnite survival sandbox game in December 2023. The genre has since expanded to include several game modes. Most recently, Epic Games has added LEGO Fortnite Expeditions into the mix.
LEGO Fortnite Expeditions has its players enrol in the Supernova Academy. The Supernova Academy institution is currently also featured in the main Battle Royale games, having taken over from its recent Star Wars collaboration.
Players engage in training, team up with friends, and explore different playstyles in their goal to prevent the villain Mask Maker Daigo from succeeding in his chaos-oriented aims.
Missions
Teams of up to four players take on Missions, with the Academy serving as their base of operations and connecting them with other online collaborators.
Missions take place in one of three locations, with others planned for the future. Utopia City, Spire Excavation Site, and Busted Bridge are the current locations available. Epic Games has already revealed that Demon’s Domain and the Academy will be added soon.
Completing Missions awards Hero XP and progresses Team Projects, which can unlock buffs and new missions for all players in a squad.
Hero Classes
Fortnite Expeditions also includes Hero Classes. Gameplay varies depending on which Hero Class you choose: Shadow Caller, The Hunter, and Rift Ripper.
Shadow Callers have the power of flight. They can survey the map from above, accompanied by projectiles that both deal damage to enemies and heal allies. You can also enter Shadow Form, transforming into a flock of invulnerable ravens.
The Hunter focuses on damage dealing, equipped with a grappler and blade to navigate fights effectively. This Hero Class can also equip traps to deal damage and interrupt enemy attacks.
Rift Rippers’ abilities can be buffed in the presence of Rift Crystals. Players in this Hero Class manipulate Rift Shards to damage individual or multiple enemies. They also enjoy increased mobility from Rift Jump and Rift Dodge abilities.
Hero Classes feature unique upgrade trees. These allow players to be more flexible in customising their character abilities.
How does LEGO Fortnite Expeditions link with other Fortnite game modes?
LEGO Fortnite Expeditions can be accessed from the main game mode selection when you launch Fortnite. However, you can also access Expeditions through two other game modes.
Both Odyssey and Brick Life, other LEGO modes in the game, can take you directly to Expeditions through the Battle Bus Stations. There is no need to exit back to the game lobby.
In July, elements of Expeditions will even begin crossing over into Odyssey. Spires have already appeared in Odyssey – sentient crystal-like beings. Those found in Odyssey are currently not activated.
The ability to craft Expeditions weapons in Odyssey went live with the Expeditions launch, and Epic Games has recommended that players begin crafting in preparation for upcoming game mode crossovers.
Expeditions is available on all platforms, including the mobile app, which is back on the Apple App Store.
