Fortnite Blitz Royale launched for limited time only

Epic Games has announced a new five-minute Fortnite Blitz Royale mode.

Currently slated to be available to play for four weeks, Epic Games has suggested that it may return as a more fleshed-out concept in the future.

What is Blitz Royale?

Fortnite Blitz Royale can be played in squads of four or solo mode.

The game begins with 32 players. Every opponent starts the game with the same randomised power-up medallion, named “Boons,” or unique weapon, levelling the initial playing field.

Players must then increase their Blitz Level by eliminating opponents and surviving storm circles. Levelling up helps players acquire more powerful weapons and Boons. Loot chests and supply drops also help players increase their utility.

The loot pool and included weapons will update weekly while the game mode is live.

Four weeks of updates – June 18th to July 15th

Fortnite Blitz Royale will feature four key updates between launch on June 18th and its final day live on July 15th.

Week 1 – June 18th to June 23rd

New mythic versions of Fortnite’s popular weapons will be available in-game. This includes the Rocket Ram, which can be found in the rare Golden Llama.

Week 2 – June 24th to June 30th

Pagodas from Avatar’s Four Nations will appear on the map in a pop-culture crossover. During this week, all players will start the game with a Bending Scroll from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Week 3 – July 1st to July 7th

The Avatar Bending Scrolls from Week 2 will be replaced with powerful boss weapons. Thorne’s Vampiric Blade and a new Blitz Chain of Hades will be two of the options in rotation.

Week 4 – July 8th to July 15th

Once again, the weapons pool will change to feature new items. This week, melee weapons from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be added. Players can also use Megalo Don’s Nitro Fists, the Mythic Typhoon Blade, Blitz Kneecapper, and other melee weapons recognisable from the main Battle Royale game mode.

Fortnite Blitz Royale Cosmetics

Epic Games loves to continue expanding the in-game cosmetics, as demonstrated by their recent addition of Son Heung-min to the Fortnite shop. Naturally, they have also made winnable cosmetics for Blitz Royale.

Upon earning ten account levels in Fortnite, or achieving top ten in 20 different Blitz Royale matches, players unlock the Blitz Knight outfit cosmetic.

This cosmetic will be unlockable until July 15th. However, it may become available in the Fortnite Shop at a later date, purchasable with in-game currency (V-Bucks).

A Blitz Royale glider is also unlockable through playing the Blitz Royale game mode. To unlock, players must earn three Victory Royales in Blitz Royale specifically. Once achieved, the Blitz ‘Brella glider will land in your Fortnite locker.

Will Blitz Royale return?

Currently, Blitz Royale is slated for a limited four-week release. However, Epic Games has already stated that the game mode may return with new features and mechanics in the future.

This suggests that the current launch of Blitz Royale may be a trial for a long-term game mode release.

In the meantime, other recently released Fortnite game modes will remain permanently available. LEGO Fortnite Expedition, which launched on the same day as Blitz Royale, will remain supported by Epic Games indefinitely.

For now, Blitz Royale is available to play on all platforms, including PC, consoles, and mobile.
