Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is real, it was revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 last weekend.
The latest instalment in the Call of Duty franchise will release later this year on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PS4, and PC.
However, many are surprised to learn that the game will seemingly not be available on the new Nintendo Switch 2 console.
Back in 2022, Xbox boss Phil Spencer revealed that Microsoft had signed a 10-year agreement with Nintendo over the CoD franchise:
“Microsoft has entered into a 10-year commitment to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo following the merger of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard King. Microsoft is committed to helping bring more games to more people – however they choose to play.”
This was in direct response to criticism Microsoft faced for its Bethesda and Activision Blizzard acquisitions from numerous organisations, including the Competition and Markets Authority in the UK.
The deal meant Call of Duty games would land on Nintendo consoles on “the same day as Xbox, with full feature and content parity.”
This could mean that the Nintendo Switch 2 will eventually get a port of Call of Duty’s free-to-play Warzone battle royale.
And if reports are accurate, Call of Duty devs are indeed working with the Switch 2 in mind.
According to Eurogamer journalist Victoria Phillips Kennedy, Call of Duty developers are “committed” to bringing the franchise to the Nintendo Switch 2.
An anonymous source shared with Eurogamer a statement which claims: “We’re committed to getting the franchise [Call of Duty] on Switch. Both teams [are] working on it. Will share details when ready.”
It’s not clear whether this means Black Ops 7 will release on Nintendo’s handheld console at a later date or if the developers are focusing on ports of future CoD titles instead.
The new console is certainly powerful enough for a Call of Duty game, as many have discovered with the new hardware producing many funny moments on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Black Ops 7 is the CoD franchise’s first consecutive release, following on from Black Ops 6, which launched last October.
The upcoming game will feature the usual multiplayer experience as well as a co-op campaign and a new edition of the beloved zombies mode.
The campaign will feature Heroes, Gilmore Girls and Rocky Balboa actor Milo Ventimiglia starring as David Mason.
